Having arrived in Terelli, Governor Guilder was disturbed by the mood on the streets. In some places you could find people quietly bemoaning the actions of the king and worried about the prospect of war with Oleon, but they dared not speak too openly for fear of royal reprisals. Meanwhile, in other sections of the city, hooligans were ready to denounce (or worse!) anything remotely Oleanderish. The hooliganism was troubling to Guilder; patriotism and loyalty to the king was one thing, but these were mere thugs looking for an excuse to cause trouble, while good men dared not speak. Law and order was breaking down right under the king’s nose!

Guilder decided his first stop must be the MCTC headquarters. He had been unable to contact Guy Wyndzon before he left Weelond; Guilder hoped that he could discover the whereabouts of the Secretary of State (or even his uncle!) before heading to the palace. As Guilder approached the entrance to MCTC HQ, a marble building that that still managed to understate its importance to Eslandola, a distraught woman in blue was just leaving.

“Oh, Governor Guilder!” exclaimed the woman in an Oleander accent. “Perhaps you can help me.”

Guilder knew the face, and quickly tried to remember her name. “Ah, you’re the friend of Thaddeus Calvo, are you not? It was lovely to see you at the opening of my new residence back in May.” Then he recalled her name. “What are you doing here, Madame Villeneuve?”

“I was looking for Thaddeus, but he is not here … as I expected. He’s always off adventuring. I had hoped someone at the MCTC could help me in his stead, but I have had no luck.”

“Dear, what can I do for you?”

“The politics of recent days have become quite difficult to bear for someone like me. I have been afraid to venture out of my room much at all. I had hoped to find passage back to Breshaun, but it appears no ships from Terelli are being allowed to leave for Oleander ports. I am afraid of what might happen to me here.”

“I understand your concern, Madame. I have seen the hooligans in the street. It is a shame, and the reason I am here in Terelli is to make sure this war does not come to pass. Once my business is done here, I can transport you to Breshaun personally on my ship.”

“You are very generous, governor. Thank you! But what can I do in the meantime?”

“You can stay in quarters here at MCTC headquarters as my guest until I am ready to depart.” Guilder turned to one of his bodyguards.

03.jpg

“My musketeer will escort you to retrieve your things and bring you back here safely, and will serve as your bodyguard until our departure. Will that be adequate, madame?”

04.jpg

“Oui, most certainly!”

“And I will pass word when I can to Thaddeus to let him know you are safe. If he knows you are here, I’m certain he is worried for you as well.”

“Merci.”

And here's the full build:

I built this earlier this year, and it has appeared as a background in another post, but this was the perfect opportunity to use it again, and I wanted to show the whole thing this time. If I were building the HQ from scratch now, I'd work in a little more color and a little more detail, as the detail that is there doesn't show up well in white. But I'm still happy with the build. As always, all C & C welcome.

Very nice building Capt Wolf, the off-set sections in white and grey add a lot.

Lovely build, so what if it isn't all new to us it is nice to see it fully presented to allow us to appreciate it fully.  The story is good too and I like the links to similar threads showing the developing situation, really helps sell the setting properly.

This is a beautiful building. I like the details that went into the texturing. The edge of the roof with the exposed studs works really great. I also like the windows in the roof.

I re-looked at the referenced builds. It is nice to see tying in of previous builds and people. It definitely improves the story aspect of BOBS.

The harmony of the colours makes this such a nice MOC! Not even mentioning the good story accompanying it.

Very nice build, Capt Wolf, the subdued color-scheme gives it a very elegant look, and the half-stud offsets and flower design on the top are just the details it needs! :pir-wink:  I'm not quite sure whether to wish that Guilder can find Guy's uncle there for you or not! :pir_laugh2:

Fantastic house! Wonderful job on roof, the "arch" above the door and the half-stud-offset white line between the floors. Amazing colourchoice.

My only criticism is that it is located in the old world. Makes me sad. :-)

Thank you. With such a monochromatic look, the offsets were essential.

Thanks. Regarding the links, I had to link to your crowd control build; it laid the groundwork so well for this.

I tried to put a lot of detail into the edge of the roof. The row of bricks above the windows, between the two overhangs, alternates with normal and grooved/grill bricks, but I don't think it shows up very well. But I experimented with a lot of techniques on this build.  And as I develop the various characters other than my main two, I try to keep things accessible by linking to backstories. Building these stories is a lot of the fun of the game

Thanks. "Colors" might be an overstatement; it's a very tame palette.

Thanks. Elegant was the effect I was going for. This was my first time working with the half-stud offsets on anything very large. And truth be told, I'm not terribly disappointed that I haven't found Guy's uncle. :pir-grin:

Thanks! The doorway is the reason this build exists; the doorway was the initial build, then I needed a building to go around it. FYI, the ledge near the roof is half-stud offset, but the line between floors is just door-rail plates.

I was a little sad to put this in the old world, too, but it's always where I pictured it. But this build led to my governor's mansion build in the new world, and I'm certain the MCTC will need a similar structure in the new world soon.

I'm very pleased that so many people find that the colors work. Working with mostly white and black, and a little gray, can be challenging, but it allows the gold and green to really pop. Thanks to everyone for the comments and feedback!

White and (especially) black are horrible to work with when it comes to taking pictures. What strikes me as very realistic is the roof. The rough surface and lighting makes it look weathered. And the white works as a strong and good contrast. Very good use of traditional roof bricks (y).

The one thing I would comment is that the white bricks underneath the roof are more commonly seen underneath the line under the roof instead of on top of the line... My vocabular hinders me. Like this: First relevant picture I found

Apart from that, the roof on this is top notch.
