[OL - FB] The Aspiration

A people from the far west have fled a powerful empire conquering other nations. These refugees have been brought under the wings of Oleon. The people are religious, which is similar to the belief system of Oleon.

These refugees are able to use their vessel in trade and generate significant income for these people. Their cannons do not use round, shot, but large arrows tipped with iron.

I really wanted to build a type of vessel that isn't exactly based upon one vessel, but could have been made. Letting my creativity go crazy.

Not what I was expecting when I clicked on this thread. I like it -- both the ship itself and the presentation, that is, the deck packed with goods and cannons and minifigs. That roof technique on the hut is fascinating, and nice use of the viking bow/stern piece. Cool build!

A very unique ship and certainly different from anything else we've seen so far! My favourite part is the green roof technique, along with the bow and stern details - very cool! So are the armoured crew, although I'm not sure about the spear tipped cannons!

Like the roof technique, feel the green clashes with the blue a bit. Other than that I think she looks fantastic.

Very nice and very unique ship, Phred, my favorite parts are the hut (especially the roof), the nets on the outriggers, and the sails - great job bringing something different than usual into BoBS!

While I do think that this ship might have benefited from fewer colors, the overall junky effect really works here! I especially like the green roof and great choice of shape for the sails. What I could do without is the white stripe and the dashes of blue; but the imaginative shape you've chose is great!

Woah, Phred - not what I expected when I saw the title. That is not to say I am dissapointed - far from it indeed! This goes to show the diversity of BoBS but also that we should not limit ourselves in our sources of inspiration.

I like how you have taken some elements of the source, like the rig and the stern and bow posts, while using your creative license on others. like changing it from a katamaran to a trimaran.

Further, it is great to see some people outside the large imperial powers developed, especially such as these who have a parallel technological path. (Trimaran and arrow tipped shot, for instance)

This alternative type of rig is really cool (never seen anything like it before) and while she may conventionally seem underrigged, the wares stored on deck suggests she has a very shallow draft, allowing her to be faster on fewer sails. The (lovely)deck hut and the use of those long boat stern pieces support this idea. The amound of detail in the rig is nice too, wihtout being too busy. I wonder how such a rig will perform at different points of the wind!

The amount (and look) of people on board make it seem like a whole family or village have taken to the sea aboard her, nicely fitting with the refugeee idea. (Although Oleon doesn't strike me as a place to go, if you are haunted for thinking differently... )

The hull shape with those railings and the uninterrupted white lines look very nice, although the curve of this line seems a little off. Further, the steering oar is a great touch, although it strikes me as somewhat small. As to the colours, I will have to agree that the blue seems a bit off, or at least a bit abrupt.

All in all, great vessel, and nice to see some diversity on the brick seas!

Phred, this is a splendid vessel, both in concept and execution. I really love the incorporation of influences differing from the rather standard western European mostly used here. Also a great way to shine a light on the vast regions to the West.

What I really like about this vessel is the rigging/sails, and its artillery, especially the small guns - great design.

The only thing I have to nitpick is the use of tiles for the middle part of the white line along the sides - might have been better to use flex tubes all the way to make it smoother - but then you wouldn't have achieved the thickness...

IMO you could also have designated her a 5F - she looks darn fast
