[MOCs] Secret Origins (This Title is Sort-of Misleading)

Recommended Posts

Hello, if you don't know me, that's cool. I'm usually just the very snarky person commenting on the new set forums for DC/Marvel. I haven't posted a MOC in a while and when I was looking through my stream. I decided that I wanted to do something for Eurobricks, just in the sense of it being there.

If you've seen my Flickr recently, you may notice that I'm pretty much just writing stories and posting the occasional thing I want to do. To trick myself but also help some close friends out, I decided that I should make shout outs for them using their respective heroes that they write for or so-on, so-forth. Now, if you go on Flickr usually and follow some accounts that love giving shout outs, all they do is take screenshots of the other person's profile and it really annoys me. So I wanted to draw attention to those people in a unique manner.

Now, I know I want to make something special for Eurobricks but the only way I'd have time for it is tricking myself much like the shoutouts. One of the things I did on my stream was applying for Cyborg in a story group so, I had built an origin of sorts and called it good. Now, I came to Eurobricks and wanted to post some MOCs and had no ideas for which ones to post. Being a DC Fan, there's this marvelous thing called Secret Origins. Now this is where hopefully all the pieces come together and if it's confusing, I apologize, I just wrote another Cyborg issue and my brain is all wacky for typing and such. The first shout out build was for Aquaman. I based it off of the New 52 a bit with the JL origin, I could be wrong but he came onto land with street clothes and I may just be reaching here.

Anyways, this jumbled series of shout out builds will also be posted here, hopefully. And I plan on basing them off of first appearances or an early case. I have no clue how some will fit into that criteria.

I don't know the order but this whole topic is kind of a reach to try and stick two MOCs and maybe more into a collected bunch without needing to make separate topics for each.

TL;DR - Nexus is very lazy, makes dumb topic title to jumble MOCs together. Please enjoy.

Shoutout - [stubbs] by Nexus-, on Flickr

Aquaman is first, I really like the simplicity of this build and some more complex bits to it that I haven't tried before. I always love pushing myself with stuff like this and Aquaman was a perfect start. The water was a fun aspect, along with as you may see, me using what little amount of reddish brown plates I could to replicate a dock.

DCSG Cyborg - 0 - Application by Nexus-, on Flickr

Cyborg's was immensely interesting to make, my builds heavily feature a lot of grey. (This will hopefully change as I have ~70 sand blue bricks coming to town.) But I just really admire it as the colors present just pop. As someone who isn't really the best builder out there by any means, it's always fun to admire the little things I can accomplish and grow upon. I like finding what works for my builds and what doesn't, I actually hated this build to begin with but then it went right to getting blogged along with other pieces from my stream which really made me realize that A. The site was just looking for content, or B. I was doing something right. I take B, but only with a grain of salt.

Anyways, these are the first of hopefully more than four "Secret Origins" builds.

Cyborg's build comes with a story along with a series that has been accepted. So giving that a read would be fantastic.

Along with this, Eurobricks users are usually much more vocal with criticisms and I'm all ears for it as I want to learn how to make these builds just even more appealing to the eyes than they are (if they even are) already. I want to keep progressing and learning, because I know I'm only scratching the surface.

Thanks for (hopefully) reading!

Cool Mocs! Keep it up.

Thank you!

Wow, I love the Cyborg one! It's looks very...techy. But really, well done all 'round. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, Aegis! :classic:

Pretty cool lil' scenes. Any plans to do more of these for the rest of the Justice League (or Marvel)?

Although at first look, the sack and knife in Aquaman's scene looked like a walrus. And now I'm very upset that thief isn't running away from a particularly menacing walrus...

More DC? Yes. Some Marvel? Maybe.

I'm also now disappointed that it wasn't a Walrus... Darn it!

Hey, these are really nice! My favorite insignificant detail/ NPU is the gray paint-roller handle as wires coming from the computer. Nice one!

The only criticism I've got is for the silver cupcake up top. Can't say I'm a fan of that, but jeez, that's such a minor thing. These really do look great! Looking forward to more!

Thank you! I understand why some may not like the cupcake piece on top either, too, it's always those last minute details!
