Hey guys,

Yesterday I was a little out of inspiration for my current projects, so I started doing those useless things everybody does. But this time there came something suprising out. I found out most new small scale tires are interchangable. Maybe this is new for you, maybe it isn't.

I like to see this topic become a tire topic, where strange combinations are discussed and posted.

For moderators, if this topic is useless or needs to be discussed somewhere else, then it's my bad

So, let me start first.

It's about:

The 30.4 x 20 wheel and all compatible tires,

The 30 x 14 wheel and all compatible tires,

The 30 x 22.5 wheel and all compatible tires.

Hope this is usefull, and feel free to post other combinations!

Great to get photos...

but unfortunately, like most things on the internet.. someone has already beaten you to it!

Mouse-over every wheel, and it'll show you what tyres match up

well, not fully. The post that I made is about "illegal" combinations. The wheel card on Sariel's website is about the legal combinations, if you know what I mean

I find this usefull - especially the second picture. Just tested it, and the tyre sits pretty well.

Might be good option for small scale off roaders.

Although You can use the 30,4x20 wheels similar way - it is easy to push the tyre 1 slot inwards on both sides. This results similar thinner section profile, slightly better grip on wheel and also the diameter will be increased up to ~59 mm (couldn't measure it correctly - no tool).

I don't think it's useless at all, and quite often just this type of creativity leads to inspiration for a new model.

Here are some that I think are worth sharing:

Alternate_Tire_Wheel_Combos_600.jpg

Left to right:

Model Team Wheel with Znap tire and Wagon Wheel spoke. This can also be doubled to make a wider wheel. Love those tread patterns by the way!

Technic Racing Small wheel with 2 Znap tires (tire does overlap slightly at the back)

61.6mm Motorcycle wheels (one on each side) with Power Puller Tire (This I had seen on someones shelf with chromed inner wheels)

Viking Wagon Wheels (one on each side) with Power Puller Tire

Hope to see hundreds more on this thread :excited:

Good to see some combinations already! As said, different looking tires + rims can give you ideas for a new MOC! Double tires work great for trucks and so on and sofort!

Here we have one of my favourite wheezes for making Model Team tyres work with cross-axles: using black 2994 or 55982 rims and their compatible tyres, we can get a double-width thing that allows us to use whatever colour choice of wedge-belt wheels to cap the hubs.

If I remember correctly, Efferman used two of these:

64712.png

as a hub for some tyres. I think the for balloon ones from 9398.

Effe used these wheels for some 2.2 inches 3rd party tires. i also made a test with these wheels on the unimog's tires, they fit, but looks very ugly.

Found it ;)

Here are some (2) midnight ideas I had today .

First :

Uses the 44771 tire pushed inside the 45982 tire and both put on the 44772 rim

Second:

Unfortunately, both examples will stretch the tire :(

On the bright side, one can use the 44771 tire inside the 45982 tire to make it sturdier (the rim is the original to 45982 tire) and it won't deform it in any way

I was messing around and got the idea for this combo:

86652c01.png   inside of Part No: 61480 Name: Tire 68.7 x 34 R

It looks pretty good IMO. Also it's the small tire from 9393, not the big one from 42029.

81.6 tire looks better on this rim (it is more narrow)

If someone in interested, for one my project I needed truck wheel 62,4 and tire with possible portal axle  hub integration, but not 3rd parts, so I've ended with this solution (wheel 32004a with 62,4 tire)

and if someone needs Powerpuller tire with 123-124mm overall diameter and 48mm width, here is a solution for non steered axle

(I did not upload images here because they are to big...)

you can use this one (at least I've use it on one of my current projects - on Mercedes Arocs 2042 AS Agri)

Very creative solution!

Using parts to make up a wheel?!

I wonder if someone has made a whole rim out of pieces

One can use the turntables for a planetary gear reduction-rim. Here's some examples

I use those additional parts to support tire from inside to prevent tire deformation which is now 65mm instead of 62,4 mm in diameter...

Woah! Are there any advantages compared to normal portal hubs?

Do they need to be flex or are there any others that would work?

They need to be flexible to allow tire at least a bit of  compression under weight (or change on weight distribution when suspension compresses etc)

The one you posted is similar to what I used, but older and with a different tread pattern.

I agree but for my project I need tire pattern as similar as possible to this one
