Kai NRG Posted June 1, 2016 This is a continuation of the detective's story; check out the introduction, the next part, and the third part for more. As a result of Castilo's news - that was the name of the miserable poltroon he had dragged out of the slimy well - Rhys Thomson set off for Nova Terreli. Here he had a stop in search of an artist. Rhys walked into the artist's shop. The artist was busily engaged in painting yellow flowers. Rhys, always the detective, instantly noticed the lack of talent. This was just a sheer copy-paste sort of thing. A monkey could have done quite as well. Evidently, he thought to himself, Mia wasn't much of an artist. She must have been desperate to take this disguise. Rhys coughed slightly. The sight of cherries on the table had reminded him of what his wife always said. "Rhys Thomson! Why on earth did you cut down that beautiful cherry tree!" Never mind the fact that it hadn't had fruit for three years and was a positive eyesore to any reasonable human being. It was always her "beautiful cherry tree" - Rhys focused his attention on the detective trail and tried to forget cherry trees. The artist had turned around, and Rhys was pleased to recognize the description he had been given of Mia. A slightly different hair style, to be sure, but that couldn't fool Rhys. "What would you like?" Mia asked, a little coldly. "What is your name?" Rhys asked. "Roberta, the artist, to serve you." "You lie. Your name is Mia, you are not an artist, and you have no desire to serve me." Mia looked a little shocked at this abrupt and thorough denunciation. Rhys went on, "In my experience, it is not usual for dead people to come back to life and become artists. Perhaps you'd be able to explain?" Mia frowned. "What do you want out of me?" "All I want is an honest explanation. Of everything." Mia had recovered her self possession. "My name is Roberta and I am an artist. What more can I explain?" Rhys stepped forward authoritatively. "Don't play dumb. I'm not here alone. With the help of your little crone Castilo, I could crack down with a warrant for your arrest anytime. So just do your thing and explain!" Mia looked stunned. Rhys smiled. He pulled out a small notepad and began patiently to extract information. To be continued...
Captain Braunsfeld Posted June 1, 2016 Ha! The detective story continues. Excellent. I like your version of the painter's palette - and the tidy room is quite aesthetic.
Tezclatipoca Posted June 1, 2016 Nice scenette ! I like your version of Van Gogh Sunflowers in minifigure scale !
Bregir Posted June 1, 2016 Lovely little interior build with some nice artists details. The story is good too, but I feel like there is a hole in the story - tell me again why he was looking for an artist? He sure has a very astute sense of lies - really sees right through her! Funny story - will enjoy seeing it continued!
Phadeout Posted June 1, 2016 Great interior, simple but very effective, as is the choice of background I really have learnt from Garmadon and you recently about how a build can be shaped by the choice of background colour - I am going to have to invest in some colours to go with my white and black backings. In terms of the story, he is an extremely skilled detective, he is getting to the heart of this very quickly, who knows what he is going to learn though... BTW, I haven't said it yet in any of the detective builds but I love Rhys, the head and hair are super and the look really fits with the character as you write him. Top work. soccerkid6 Posted June 4, 2016 Great continuation to your story, the detective seems more capable than I first assumed Nice combination of MDF with RB for the walls, and the paint stand is clever
SilentWolf Posted June 4, 2016 The story continues! I like the way you designed the painting and canvas. Also the wall technique with the arches adds so much character to this build. Great job and I look forward to the next part of the detective saga.
Elostirion Posted June 4, 2016 Some really nice techniques to see here. Especially the small table with the colours on it impresses me! Also nice job on the story!

Kai NRG Posted June 15, 2016 Thanks all! Look out for the next installment soon(ish)! Lovely little interior build with some nice artists details. The story is good too, but I feel like there is a hole in the story - tell me again why he was looking for an artist? He sure has a very astute sense of lies - really sees right through her! Funny story - will enjoy seeing it continued! Thank you! I intentionally omitted the detective's conversation with Castillo, because that would have told too much - but the gist of it is that Castillo put him on Mia's track (she isn't really an artist... more like a criminal... you'll have to wait and see... ). Great interior, simple but very effective, as is the choice of background I really have learnt from Garmadon and you recently about how a build can be shaped by the choice of background colour - I am going to have to invest in some colours to go with my white and black backings. In terms of the story, he is an extremely skilled detective, he is getting to the heart of this very quickly, who knows what he is going to learn though... BTW, I haven't said it yet in any of the detective builds but I love Rhys, the head and hair are super and the look really fits with the character as you write him. Top work. Thanks! Background colors can really add a ton and are very easy too - in fact, it's often easier to get really good pictures on color than it is on white! I'm trying to keep Rhys' character fairly consistent over the stories - which can be a little tough as I'm writing it by fits and starts whenever I build the next part, and I'm not always in the mood to think up something for his wife to say... Great continuation to your story, the detective seems more capable than I first assumed Nice combination of MDF with RB for the walls, and the paint stand is clever Thanks! Yep, I'm getting some use out of that MDF right? Some really nice techniques to see here. Especially the small table with the colours on it impresses me! Also nice job on the story! Thanks Elostirion! Small tables are fun!
