Recommended Posts

QJ means "forward" , It's the peak of steam engine that made by China herself. There are still several QJ runing in USA now for tourism.

Wooooooooooooow!

How did you get the driver trim white?

Here's a vid of the real thing:

Also, I really like your coaches. Can we see some photos of those?

Amazing! I love how you painted the wheels to have the white trim (Even if it wasn't intended I like the flaking of the paint it makes it look used). I really love all of the piping you used and such good detail!

Great Job!

This is a breathtaking model, with incredible attention to detail!

And the idea to reproduce the screw conveyor in the tender, instead of just modeling a heap of coal, is really amazing!

Beauty! So many nice details like the gold epaulettes and the way you're running some of the tubing.

I see you used some Kragle for the 17 stud long half beams in the running gear?

Oh, didn't even notice that. Hmm. Not *quite* as impressed as I was before. Still hugely awesome locomotive, though.

As an aside, I read in multiple places that the people at Iowa Interstate were none-too-happy with the real engines and how they compared to American steam - they're apparently more difficult to fire, and their lugging power is only so-so.

I paint the wheel to red and white by hand, all China engine paint likes this. The coaches in vedio is disigned according to "oriental express", I'll show it in a new topic soon. Paste photo at Eurobricks really beat me, it's too complex, so I must spend lots time to post a new topic with photo.

Your are correct, I stick one 7 stud, one 6 stud and one 4 stud long half beams with resin to a 17 stud long half beams.

This is exceptional!. So many details.

And the walschaerts valve is reallly well done.

(A pity you had to use paint and Kragle, personally I wouldn't use it, but is a beauty nonetheless)

Oh wow, that is an excellent rendition, spot on! Even got all of the sanding tubes coming down, few steam models go in to that much detail but that really makes the resolution seem to be higher than what is possible in lego. Neat little tricks on the headlights too. While it might fail on a purity test, the glued drivers are still a clever solution. And the paint, well, even lego does that in the legoland parks. I do like the white tires on the driver wheels, helps make the engine pop.

I had heard that the engineer's seat is on the left side rather than the American convention of having the engineer on the right side.

In any event, it is a great build.

I also don't like modify the parts unless no other solution. But I think paint is acceptable, even Lego have lots of pained parts.

Thank you for your highly praised. In begineing, I'm ready to buy your 5 holes 17 long cunstom rods, but finanly I found this cheaper way.

Excellent build of a great prototype!

BTW there exists a QJ in Europe too, at the Technik Museum in Speyer, Germany:

Incredible job! You've captured all the details both big and small of the actual locomotive.

Wow, the painted wheels are indeed eye catching, but you gotta repaint them cause the locomotive looks amazing and cant have those wheels without maintenance :D
Well done m8!

This is the prototype of Mould King's 12003.

Does that mean Mould King's set is a legit model licensed by the original designer who is being paid for his work and not a "stolen moc"?

Excellent job, in addition to the design you have taken care of the details such as the color of the wheels, the golden stripes on the boiler, the mechanism of the piston rods!

The video is totally cool!

Your are correct, all Mould King's train set is licensed by me.
