Sorry if this has been asked before - I couldn't find anything.

Has anyone worked out a way of creating metallic detailing on decals that doesn't involve expensive specialist printers or paying someone else bags of money to do it? Particularly very small details that would be difficult to paint or draw on by hand?

Thanks!

What you could do is paint the metal part on the piece first, maybe use a template cut out of thin plastic. Then leave the space blank on a water slide decal with a black outline and put it on top. The thicker the black outline is, the less precise you would have to be on the paint job, and you can probably work out a cut out template that can be reused if you are making more than one.

I've wondered if there was a way of doing it with Safmat.

When I was at college there was a material called Safmat and it was a film that you could buy in sheets that adhered to carbon print through a heat transfer.

Technically you could print the colour decal... then print over it through a black and white laser printer or photocopier which you when run through the heat roller with the metallic Safmat sheet over it.

Probably far too much faffing about for it to be worth it. Go with Emilstorm's option.
