I think there will be some set reveals, like a The Lego Batman Movie set, a SW Rogue one set and hopefully some teaser material for The Lego Ninjago Movie.

A Lego Batman Movie set being revealed is definitely going to happen. I think a Star Wars set is going to be revealed, but it is not going to be based off Rogue One. I also think the Doctor Strange set might be revealed. We will also get a tease of a new theme most likely.

It must be from an upcoming movie.

I'd hate for it to be a Rogue One (selfishly) and would rather it be a crazy, little known Marvel/DC dude.

I just hope none of the exclusive figures are characters I want.

In that case, I expect Goofy, Sauron from Lord of the Rings, Velma without glasses, and either old Luke Skywalker or Finn in bloody stormtrooper armor.

Giving Sauron at SDCC is like.. so evil! Fits his character, though.:tongue:

old Luke Skywalker

Oh! I'd love that!

That's so evil, and therefore, likely to happen

If they did that he'd most likely be a "preview fig" like Azog, rather than an exclusive like Bizarro. After all, Luke will presumably be a key character in Episode VIII, and very possibly wear the same costume he wore at the end of TFA.

I would prefer a TFA Luke because as mentioned he'll just appear later. Funko is making a Pop TFA Luke, so it seems that character is possible for merchandising.

According to AmazingBricks the DC SDCC exclusive will be from rebirth so it will likely be

Doctor Manhatten, Kid Flash or a Rebirth varient of an existing character (which I would hope it would be)

Hoping for Ninjago and/or Nexo Knights panels, at least one LEGO Batman Movie set reveal, and maybe another exclusive Bionicle mask giveaway!

I think Lego should do some sort of exclusive SDCC line rather than making these highly sought after giveaways. They should make a line of their own stuff, something die-hard Lego collectors can enjoy, along the lines of Ideas. That way, not all theme fans are disappointed and item-less.

Otherwise, I think Lego should just take a minifigure exclusive to a large set and give it away in special packaging (e.g. Green Goblin from this year's Bridge Battle would make a nice giveaway) or give away a future, unreleased minifigure from [said] theme, such as they did with The Hobbit.

This year, I think we will definitely see the Doctor Strange set revealed and a Lego Batman Movie set revealed, but not a Rogue One set lest it be the official reveal of a constraction figure. Given how tightly under wraps Disney kept Force Awakans merchandise, I wouldn't expect anything, especially since that Force Friday is even later this year.

The former idea doesn't hold water because Lego's entire presence at these conventions is devoted to promoting their existing themes, and the giveaways are meant to tie in with that. The latter is something Lego COULD do (and has done in some specific cases) but applied across the board would probably not be nearly as effective when it comes to promoting their booth—such items would be far less desirable for the average congoer because unlike the exclusive figs, which retain their value as a keepsake for those lucky enough to get them, figs due for release in ordinary sets would actually DECREASE in value after the sets they appear in are released, collectible packaging or no collectible packaging. And keep in mind that while early access to a fig might be quite a special privilege in a vacuum, with Lego's competition (including Hasbro and Mattel) offering exclusive items of their own at those events, it's in Lego's best interest to at least match their ante.

And beyond all that, events like SDCC can occasionally be Lego's ONLY way to market certain niche characters from themes like Super Heroes to an appreciative audience. We'd probably never have gotten a fig like Batman of Zur-En-Arrh in any actual set release, considering what an obscure character variant he is. But he's the perfect sort of giveaway for an audience of die-hard comics fans, for whom the character's obscurity is an asset rather than a flaw.

What if they did Bob: Agent of Hydra? (He's an old supporting character of Deadpool.) That seems like the sort of thing that makes uber-fans happy and the average consumer doesn't really care about.

What if they played a nasty joke on the resellers, and claimed a minifigure was exclusive, but actually wasn't.

Like if they made some character who was just released, but isn't explicitly advertised in the sets (Like Hank Pym in the AntMan set) and claimed it was exclusive so that the resellers would be all "I have to get nine of these! Gaaaahhhh!" and then they try to resell them, and nobody cares.

That'd be fun.

But resellers aren't the only ones standing in line for hours for these. Real fans/collectors would be bummed, too.

Only the ones stupid enough to wait in line after it's revealed to be a completely normal R2-D2.

My plan relies on the stupidity of some resellers. Of course, other stupid people fall prey to it as well, but if stupid people are upset by the whole thing, it'd be kind of funny.

Interesting idea. It would be a lot better if only the packaging was exclusive because now I'll never have Spider-Woman, Pheonix, Bizarro and Captain Marvel(Shazam!)

On an unrelated note, sorry to hear about your signature :(

Resellers and flipper pay as much attention to the collecting game as the fans and true collectors. That's why collecting can be so hard for people, because scalpers know where to go and how to hunt. No one is gonna be stupid enough to fall for this plan.

It's not impossible for those characters to show up in other sets at some point. Green Arrow was once released as a Comic-Con exclusive figure, but later got released in sets as a different variant. The same could easily happen for some of those other characters.

There's the question of whether that WOULD happen (considering that, for instance, Phoenix would be most likely to appear in an X-Men set, which are few and far between, while some of those other characters are B-list at best). But then, that question would apply even if those characters hadn't been released as exclusives.
