The best of the worst Lego Ideas

Recommended Posts

Oh. That's definitely in the wrong place. Um, how did nobody in the approval board catch that it's a Haunted House with all of the Haunted parts replaced?! I mean, if it was posted here as a revamp of the original, nobody would complain, but this guy is trying to pass a modified official design as HIS OWN creation.

Also: NO! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/151996

I found another bad one... not necessarily a bad IDEA, but the model needs a lot more polishing to be good. At present, the White Witch can't even SIT DOWN in it... the strings aren't attached to the other end, when that would be incredibly easy for most LDD Builders to do... https://ideas.lego.com/projects/151981

Awful-looking set, even worse movie: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/152004

Wow, yes, those are terrible.

Why do people keep posting such terrible entries?

Because most people probably don't look at their own creations and immediately recognize their flaws. That's why for those who aren't good at critiquing their own work (which is not necessarily a universal skill by any stretch of the imagination), getting someone else to critique your work is so helpful. And even then, if they're a kid showing their work to their parents, they might just get more encouragement (which could actually be genuine, since few parents are experts on the ins and outs of Lego design or how competitive a service like Ideas will be).

This exactly.

I always imagine some young kids' parent uploading these to Lego Ideas, or the kid uploading it under supervision of the parent. I understand that these post-babyboom parents feel like they need to encourage their kid at every turn, but I also feel these parents could be a little more realistic and honest with their kids. Their "awesome" design really isn't gonna be made into a set. Maybe somewhere in the process of uploading, the Ideas site should be showing pictures of the successful Ideas sets so far, accompanied by the subliminal message "is your idea really up to these standards?"

Because what kid wouldn't want to own a non-functioning power outlet made out of plastic bricks?

This one is just all-around poor.

Another "Bionicle" from Sammy.

1st was pointless.

2nd was built by a 6 year old.

3rd was, well, I'm not the guy to ask since I don't care for Constraction, but even I can tell that's not up to par.

These types of projects need to stay off of Ideas.

Of course it was (6 at most), but look at the image. It's professionally made. So the parents (?) made an image and uploaded it, most obviously. The account should be banned. I once liked to browse Ideas and just look at the nice projects and get some inspiration. But this kind of stuff destroys the entire Ideas website.

How do you know it was built by a six-year-old (or younger)? Can you prove that?

If it wasn't, it was built by someone who shouldn't be posting their sub-par projects.

Semi-related to this, IDEAS just introduced new guidelines for project support. You have 60 days to get 100 supporters, if not, your project becomes 'expired.' If you reach 100 supporters in that timeframe you get a 365 day extension. Hopefully this will start to clear out many sub-par models, albeit slowly.

It will help, but it won't clear out the crap from the Discover page's most recent projects. To do that, their moderators would have to filter out the majority of submissions for not meeting Project Quality Standards, which is something they already claim to be doing (somehow).

I'm sure they are in fact doing that.

There really isn't a way to truly clear out all the submissions people here are complaining about; what people here are missing is that that's what the Ideas process (our voting) is for.

Yes this new 60 day filter will keep the half-hearted troll kiddie projects from lasting that long. Sure they will be archived, but they won't waste space when searching for good projects.

Although this thread is about to get a lot more quite I am willing to bet!
