Hi,

wow thanks for looking it up for me! Yes this will help, at least I can see it is possible and it doesn't look that hard to do...

BR, Guenther

Glad I could help! Looking forward to seeing it in your display.

By the way, if your interested I can tell you everything you need to know about custom monorails like this one.

th?id=OIP.8CaulKMvm55ymDNipfVq_wEsDI&pid=15.1

Designs like these use custom built track made out of Lego bricks. As for the monorail itself there are different ways of designing them using m motors and Lego car wheels. A very popular builder of these is masao hidaka on YouTube. You can find him here.

https://m.youtube.com/#/user/MasaoHidaka

Here are two of his videos that are very helpful for starts.

https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=FidR-heV55E

https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=mqYmFWg_tVc

I plan in doing a very lengthy, detailed thread on this subject for beginners in the near future.

Ah ... yes I know this type of Monorails. They are magnificent and there are allot of interesting versions out there, even with working points and crossing. *huh*

Unfortunately I do not have the space in my layout for this kind of monorail, so I stick to a short track of standard monorail. And another thing is, that I need to change levels and I am not sure if brick built monorails can handle inclinations like the original one does due to the center tooth rail.

They can, but the design (also made by masao hidaka) is complex compared to the official Lego monorail system.

Huh? Works fine for me. I'll try again.

If it still doesn't work just look up on YouTube "Lego Monorail Graded Rail test 4". He's made four of these videos related to this topic, with this one being the fourth. Hope this helps.

Didn't work for me either, but if you remove this "?app=desktop#/" from the link, it works. The app-switch seems to prevent it from working.

Hi Guys,

I have now managed to integrate the modified Tower Bridge into my town. Therefore some pre work was necessary: first I had to shorten the street on the left side by a couple of studs, to get the Bridge some studs more to the left, to be able to connect the street later on the right side in 45° and be able to stay with this street as close to the layout level border.  Second I added two houses to the city wall, and for that I had to construct a little platform to get a space on the same level as the city wall is. The platform walls are in the same style as the tower bridge is. And last but not least, I had do hide the blue front of the Detctive Office with a plant. Otherwise the front would have dominated the scene and that didn't look good.

Unfortunately, I can't show you any pictures yet, since brickshelf is down due to some maintenance work. But I don't let you go without something to watch. So I have also made two videos, I'll like to show you instead (don't worry pictures will come as soon as brickshelf is up and running again):

The next big thing I'll start to work on, will be the little pond with waterfall. It will be located under the bridge between the Ghostbusters HQ and train tracks. For now there is the little playground, which will be removed once the pond is ready to be constructed.

As always I'd love to get some feedback from you guys!

BR,

Guenther

Hi Guys,

as promised, since Brickshelf is online again (sort of, zip file uploading still doesn't work :hmpf_bad:), here are some pictures of the current state of the layout:

Unfortunately I have to post only the links to the images since Eurobricks tells me "The link could not be embedded because there is no image at that URL." However, if you follow  the link you will see there are pictures there (and these links work well on 1000Steine.de and on doktor-brick.de, I don't know what's wrong with Eurobricks?! (perhaps a mod can fix this?)

First of all a quick look under the construction which holds the Lego Store (60097) and the modified Toys'R'us and Pizza (7848 and 7641):

http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/tmctiger/LLayout/Plans/alternativeLayout/WIP/bridge/small/small_img_0045.jpg

And now here the platform with the stores and a little park n top:

Here you can find a overview of the complete left part of the layout:

And this is the way I overcome the big blue wall on the detectiv office:

And here you can find a detailed image of the city wall behind the bridge (however without adjacent buildings):

And last but not least some impressions on how a Minifg will see the town:

Hi,

thanks for your feedback. Yes this is also one of my favourite shots.

Btw.: inserting embedded links to images still doesn't work for me. I have no idea what went wrong here.*huh*:sceptic:

IMO, Flickr works great! I'd try it out of I were you. And you can sign up with Flickr using your current email even if it isn't with Yahoo.

Hi,

hmm I don't like Flickr since this is owned by Yahoo and that company doesn't attract attention due to their user security :hmpf_bad: ... I don't want to find my login credentials sold in the darknet ...

Anyway, in another forum I was pointed towards Bricksafe, and I most likely give it a try if Brickshelf make problems again. But to be honest, I'd like to stay on Brickshelf due to the simplicity of use and therefore I cross fingers that Brickshelf fixes their problems and starts working again without any problems.

Hi there tmctiger, Günther, great lay-out  ! How will you be operating all those switches? Manually? I see at your pictures all your running stock to be kit-engines? Do you also MOC your trains or just MOC-buildings?

I'm very interested to see this layout completed.

The links work fine for me so if you wish I could very easily post the pictures for you if you like.

Another option is MOC pages. You can find it here. http://www.moc-pages.com

Hi,

currently I operate the switches manually, but remote control is planned for the future (but I have no good solution so far for this problem).

Currently I am running just kit trains (with minor modifications though here an there), but I have also plans for MOC-trains in the future. But for now the focus is on the layout itself.

Yes I also noticed this. And jep, let us keep the fingers crossed that it now finally works again after their downtime.

Hi Blackpool!

Thanks! I am currently refining the plans of the waterfall. Since I have made some changes on the "interface" to the "Tower Bridge"-Module, I have to change some minor stuff on the waterfall. Once this is completed I'll order the parts (again a lot of pieces needed ) .

Hy Guys,

here is short update on the progress on my layout:

I have now finished the waterfall refining and it is now ready to be built with real bricks. The preview rendering looks as follows:

small_waterfall_final_lower_part_1.0a.jp

The yellow parts are the "interface" to the modified Tower Bridge shown before in this thread. So the yellow parts are parts already built in the bridge and the tunnel, walls and waterfall has to connect to. Currently I am in process of ordering all the parts (again approximately 5000 pieces, mostly due to the rigid building and strong back structure.

The whole stuff is separated in five independent modules: the ground with the pond and grass, the tunnel, the stonewalls left and right of the waterfall, and the waterfall itself. So it is fairly easy to build the modules offsite and then just put them into position on the layout.

There is another topic I am currently thinking about: incorporating the two new, sort of water based, buildings into the layout: the Ninjago city and the old fishing store. My first plan is to put them on the upper level (tan baseplates)of layout in the right corner just behind the street with a small surrounding water surface.

small_level2_2_text.jpg

And I have also found a place for my Haunted House  ... it will be placed on the middle level (green baseplates) on a small rock (perhaps 5-7 Studs high) with a small path to it (and possibly the path will go all up to the upper level and the town itself...)

Another thing I am currently thinking about, is the conversion of the tram of 60097: City Square to become a monorail compatible version.

So this is it so far. I'll post an update as soon as I have some brick built version of the waterfall section.

Please feel free to leave some comments on what you think about it so far.

BR, Guenther
