[GBC] Wheel Bucket Excavator MOC

LEGO Friends Wheel Bucket Excavator Great Ball Contraption - the Friendly WBE way to move GBC balls

It has been a while since I've made a GBC module. This is something fun for the LUG's upcoming event season. I've been sitting on an idea to use those "scoop" pieces in a GBC for a couple of years. The upcoming BWE finally kickstarted my bum to action. It took some trial and error to get them to work. I may have to do more tweaking once it starts going to events. As GBCers know, what works great at home, does not outside the home. :classic:

I still have to make a suitable ball receiving/loading bin. I am not sure the events GBC coordinators will let me use the lid from a take out order of french fries.

If it's 10 bricks high and at least 10x10 studs in size, they shouldn't have too much of an issue!

Lovely piece of work.

Owen.

That looks great! What will you use for entry bin? Something out of LEGO or a simple plastic bowl?

Post a photo in BWE speculation topic and write how TLG changed the design. The number of pages will double over night :-P

Love GBC in general, but it is nice to see Friends to get in the action for a change! :classic:

Lovely MOC, I like this kind of bucket machines!

very funny moc, lego friends is interesting for moc with other theme.

Very nice! I'll post one more Friends MOC too :)

Thank you all. It is fun to MOC with Friends. I may be secretly trying to get more girls interested in engineering with Friends.

Thank you for digging that up for Doug72. All I can recall is the pieces came from an old Crystal Reaper or was it Crystal Sweeper set.

Thanks. That would have been a great April Fools Day joke. It's probably too late to now to stir up that kind of trouble. Jim may not like that.

Bin would be 10 high and 10 wide and feed down to a scooping area. Maybe I can make it like the side of an open face mine.

Took me a while going through all my Lego instruction books to find the part - it was in the last one I looked - Mars Misson 7645 set mining vehicle.

Your use of the scoops has inspired me to use them for a medium size bucket wheel trencher.

So far have made the bucket wheel but only has 6 scoops - more on order as the BW will require 8.

Wheel rim made up of 16 pce. # 3 connectors with a diameter of approx. 16L.

The discharge will use the conveyor from the Lego City 4645 harbour set with wheel and conveyor motorised.

I will start a new topic once there is more progress on this MOC.

I've made some updates to my BWE GBC module. I've built a ball feeder unit. It wouldn't be purist using a plastic food container lid for feeding the balls.

This weekend I finally had a chance to display it. It ran non-stop without jamming or breaking down for the duration of the 4 hour outdoor picnic event. My target kids audience seemed to like it. There were a few who kept coming back to watch it. :classic:

I like it a lot! I have many of those buckets (50+) and been contemplating building something similar, as in LDD renders below. Note that the bucket per say is not available in LDD, and hence, the use of 'generic' parts.

Are you working on a trenching wheel like Doug72? With 50+ of those buckets, maybe you can also make something like this with the extra buckets.

My trencher machine is on hold at the moment as have used all my buckets on a GBC BWE lift.

If I build it it would have a circular bucket wheel not a linear one.

What is your GBC BWE lift? Do you have an EB topic for it? Curious to see what it is. :classic:

See this link which has images & video of how the wheel was constructed and the ball loading mechanism etc.
