Hougoumont

Recommended Posts

Here's an MOC I made of Robert Gibb's Hougoumont.

Hougoumont farm was garrisoned by the British at the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon's army attacked it, intending to draw Wellington's troops there. More and more French soliders were sent to capture it, and fierce fighting ensued. At one stage, one of the gates were broken down, and the French attempted to breach the walls. The French engaged the British in hand-to-hand combat, but the British, in desperation, managed to shut the gates, leaving some poor Frenchmen inside, who were massacred.

Here's the painting by Robert Gibb:

...And here's mine:

Who's painting in the middle of battle? :-D

I couldn't find any pics of Robert Gibb, so I just made an artistic looking minifig:

Enjoy! X-D

Very cool, I like how you included the painter painting the scene! Quite original! *y* Good idea too!

A very action packed scenery indeed, nicely done with a good choose of MF heads! *y*

Genius... Such an original idea Tiny Pies! Adding the painter was a very nice touch. Hougoumont always seems to make it into every Waterloo feature film that I can think of. I'm amused imagining the painter floating on a little raft and painting scenes from the battle of Trafalgar X-D

But once again in closing... very nicely done!

Very nice, and a great touch to make the painter (although I think he only made some sketches and made the painting later after the battle) ;-)

Cool idea. Add a few more reds and a horse coming in the gate and you've got an exact replica. *y*

Yeah, but I was making it more literal X-D

Here's the painting it's based on...

If anyone is interested...

Thanks, although I did have a link in the original post.

Thanks. As you might have been able to see, two of the redcoats don't have the right torso :-$, but I'm planning on buying some more *y*

Once again, thanks everyone *wub*

I love this idea of making a lego scene of a painting.

It makes me want to do one now.

Very beautiful TinyPiesRUs *wub*

Great scene, I just love this !

I've been at Hougoumont several times when we have our annual trip to the Waterloo battlefield.

It is still in great shape like many buildings that played a part in the battle of Waterloo (La Haye Sainte, La Belle Alliance).

This thread contains several pictures of Hougoumont which I took this summer during my visit.

Great work tinypiesrus *y*

That's a very sweet idea for a vig *sweet*

Hmm... ...competition idea maybe? 8-|

I really like it, nice touch with the painter *y*

That's awesome :-D

Also, you been officially assimilated into the Vig portion of the Land-based MOC index X-D

You're in row 1 (had to fill in some gaps)

Like this topic .... >:-)

I would vote for a separete index in Bonapartes thread.

We have now two scenes/vignettes based on paintings:

Hougemont/Gibb

Morning before Waterloo/Aylward

Any more available?

You mean a new index or a separate section for vignettes based on paintings in the Land-Based index?

I like the idea... we can first show the painting followed by the Lego version.

The painter hiding in the bushes is hilarious! Lets just hope he's getting good cover. This scene is quite epic indeed.

He must be the equivalent of the modern day Paparazzi X-D

Exactly. Maybe we get more of them ...

And I like to see more of them when I think of the retreat of Moscwa, which is a very nice example.

If there's a need for special decals I'm willing to help .
