Hi all,

This topic is for discussion of the new C-Model Index (under construction here), and for suggestions of C-Models for inclusion.

I hope the index will help us all keep track of the great C-Models people have created, and in many cases, their instructions. I've managed to find a good collection to get started, but no doubt I will have missed some, so please tell me any you'd like to see added (or any mistakes/missing details/etc), and I'll add them in future updates.

Rules for inclusion:

  • Uses parts from only one set;

That's about it! Where possible, I'll list details of EB topic, youtube video, instructions, and part count. Models detailed on EB are obviously favoured, but I've already come across one or two from elsewhere which I feel deserve to be included. They are listed in no particular order. Where individuals have listed their creations as C-Model, D-Model, etc, I have ignored this and called them all C-Models, because each designer's classification doesn't work when all compiled together.

To keep this manageable, I'm going to try and release these in groups according to the original set. To start with, here's all the C-Models I have managed to round up for the set that got me out of my dark age - and perhaps its no surprise, given the sheer number of useful parts:

[EDIT: moved 42009 into the index.]

Hope this is useful - suggestions welcome.

Jo

This is an excellent idea. I know 42038 has a few C models, including my crane. It would be great if you could provide a link to the discussion thread or blog post for models that don't have instructions.

I like the idea. It could be a great source of creativity and motivation. Also those C Models won't be forgotten in the forum and will be easy to find them. For example, I just knew two (the ones of MrTekneex) C Models of 42009, so I was surprised when I saw more...Anyway, here is my 42038 C model

Nice idea! I'm proud owner of 42039 mainly because of all those C-models, I've seen on EB, so it'll be great to have them all in one place. Links in first post would be even better, hopefully it's just matter of time.

Yes, that's the plan - I'll be working through the other sets like I did for 42009 above with links, videos, links to instructions, etc

And yes, good shout on 42038 - there's at least a couple for this set - can you provide a topic link? (I'm not convinced the EB search picks up everything, as different builders call them different things, even if they do note it's a C-model.)

Wasn't [TC5] a c model competition?

Yes, though many of those are multi-set models, which don't quite fit the C-model idea for me - at some point I'll trawl through the entry topic though.

Exactly! And thanks for the suggestion and link.

I did a C model ages ago with the 9398 set... http://rebrickable.com/mocs/JM1971/honda-atc

It was a honda atc 3 wheeled bike, fun but inherently unstable just like the real thing.

Thanks for that, hadn't seen any for 9398 before.

Yes, 42039 has jumped up my own shopping list for precisely that reason. And yes, I'll be working through filling in details like I did for 42009 above (though updates may be a little sporadic!)

I personally think this is a great topic. Another reason why.....is we get alot of new members asking a similar question here on the forum. Always something along the lines of: I'm new and am trying to decide what Set to buy to learn or build up my collection or... (whatever). What set should I buy?

Responses vary but generally state one of two things:

(1) set x is good/bad because it is/is not a good build

Or

(2) set x is good/bad because it does/does not have a good part assortment.

Rarely do we broach the topic of C models and IMO it needs to be in the discussion of sets we buy more often. I personally would have never bought 42038 had it not been for the b model and @buster haus's C model

I wanted to suggest this to the admins before. I occasionally find nice C models hidden deep in the forum while doing an unrelated search.

Just one note: I think as the entries number grow fast there won't be room to put details and pictures for each model, perhaps its best to use a row per entry linking to the model page. Just like the main index.

Thanks for the enthusiastic suggestions, everybody - keep 'em coming! (Though you may need to be patient with my update speed :) )

Yes, I think you may be right. Though it's nice to have the videos embedded they do take up a lot of space, so a "thumbnail + contracted info" approach might be best. (It really wants a big table, but I haven't found a way to implement that on here - anyone know if it's possible?)

I'm not sure if you need a table. Just a list like the one I made will do - it's easy to search and read, and the information about the project is in the link. I'll look for more C-models.

Very nice idea indeed  I love C models and I have planned to build some of these other builders masterpieces and now they can be found easily, I like that! PS. I have two other C models myself for 42039 and they are of course my TC9 models Three-Wheeler and Trike, here is the link to discussion topic http://www.eurobrick...+three +wheeler

I have done a few C models over the years. They would have all been posted here on eurobricks at the time but for a quick reference they can be found on my moc pages link

Edit: Maybe these two C models of mine (three-wheeler and trike) are not very good participants to the list because of their low parts count (it was such restricted contest) so please do not add them to the list. I am very pleased that you are updating my Starfighter to the list, it was such a pleasant fun to build it :sweet:

I did consider putting a minimum part count percentage as a criterion for inclusion, but decided against it on the grounds that:

a) size of model is not necessarily correlated with quality so we might unnecessarily exclude some great contributions;

b) builders can make their own mind up about which models look attractive to them to build!

I'll include part count where it's known, just because it's interesting, and because there is a certain skill in using up as many parts as possible :)

Wow, Buster's on a roll! What have I got myself into?! Look forward to checking these out when I find a clear couple of hours to do it justice...

Index for C-Models - great idea!

But imho this thread trails off towards a discussion thread. I suggest creating to threads: 1. The index and 2. A discussion thread regard the models that should be posted in the first one. Similar to the Hallmof Fame.

Maybe you should ask Jim about it.

Not a bad suggestion - will have a think.
