[MOC] 1960ies ARAL gas station

Recommended Posts

Hi,

just finished my model of a 1960ies ARAL gas station. In these days such stations you could found in a lot of small towns in Germany.

It's based on old pictures I found in the internet, I hope you can see some of original details in the model.

Very cool MOC!!!

Like the vintage style and colors theme!

But don't recognize those big blue Windows 6x6;(

Where (what set) did they use?

Hi,

thanks everybody for your friendly comments!

(...)But don't recognize those big blue Windows 6x5;(

Where (what set) did they use?

These windows were available in two classic space sets and even an old exxon gas station from 1980.

The graved bricks are from www.steinewelten.de.

Thanks again!

What a nice gaz station! Like the others, I like the '60 feeling, which you have captured very well. Your moc is well done, with nice details, built in a very nice and cute way.

You used some Fabuland parts in a very nice way, which doon't ake them too strange in the more classic LEGO "system" style. As you used some new parts, like the Vespa. ANd all those old an new parts live together without visual time differences.

The colours are good too,

The addition of the truck, in a 4 stunds wide and classic style, is a very nice touch too, and gives your moc a complete feeling.

You proove, with this creation, that you don't need to use hundred and hundred of bricks to make some gorgeous moc. And that some relative symplicity is better than complexity which is not well controled.

Beautiful!

ANd all those old an new parts live together without visual time differences.

I also like to see modern MOCs using a few old unusual parts like that :)

I try to do that too whenever possible.

Nice build. Love the vintage look. There were many small town gas stations like this years ago in the U.S. Well done!

Hi,

Thanks again everybody for your kind words!

I received a question regarding the building technic of the signs, hope this picture helps:

A gas station makes only sense with cars ... I used the excellent citroen 2CV MOC of Hoexbroe to complete the scene:

This is a brilliant MOC.

You can still see the buildings of this kind of old gas stations around today. Most are converted to other uses now, in most cases used car dealerships or small workshops. Your MOC perfectly evokes the flair of a1950ies/1960ies gas station. All thumbs up!

Also, nice part usage throughout. Love those old 6x5 windows, really want to get some of those one day.

What did you use for the blinds in the windows? Looks like police station window stickers?

Especially the window glasses of these old pieces have often a lot of scratches. I used a scratch remover polish to restore them:

These 35years old glasses had a lot of scratches before polishing.

What did you use for the blinds in the windows?

I used the old glasses with stripe pattern stickers (Bricklink picture) from the 80ies.

Thanks again!

Thanks everybody for your response!

I created an updated version of my vintage 4wide ARAL tank truck (MAN MK25).

I received a lot of constructive feedback from Bricksy (doktor-brick.de), he built parallel a digital version of the truck.

Together we created an new evolution of my ARAL truck, now including a trailer.

That Gas Station looks stellar.Love those Details, and it really looks like those old Gas Stations in Germany from the 50s and earlier. Some still exist, even if they are heavily modified, obscured or stripped of any Details.

Also i`m pretty sure i already saw this MOC somewhere....it`s that sweet Gas Station that`s curretntly at Display in the Lego Store Frankfurt, right?

Love your Work.
