[COR - FB3] "Sulky Harlequin"

Recommended Posts

The log of Captain Aiden Coyle. January 22:

I have arrived back in Belson and met up with my wife and son. It has been just over two years since I had last seen them, but... I almost didn't recognize them. Two years on the run has changed them... us all. I can't put the changes into words exactly, but we are no longer the pampered aristocracy we once were. My son is hardly a boy now. He has been accepted into the service of the queen. It is not a choice I would have chosen for him, but he is his own man now. I just worry for his safety but I suppose that there is danger wherever one is.

The "Sulky Harlequin" is now ready for voyage. There are still some changes I would like to make to her, but we have no time as the Royal Society of Navigation and Discovery wishes us to sail within the week. I must now attend to her licensing which will require me to find some additional investors into our enterprise.

This is my third free-build this month. If you are of another faction and give me an approval, please let me know in your comment if you have any builds you would like me to give you an approval for and I will return the favor.

Investment prospect "The Sulky Harlequin"

Are you looking for an investment opportunity with promises of great profits and insignificant risks? Do you too want to take your part in the rush for New Terra, and in the proceeds it may yield? Do you too want to support the glory and greatness of the Corrington empire, and the progress of our scientific achievements?

Then read on, as here may be an offer you cannot refuse.

Vessel:

Salvaged from confiscation from fundamentalist Oleander radicals, the "Sulky Harlequin" is being refitted for a scientific and mercantile expedition towards New Terra for the glory of Queen Anetta. A mighty Carrack (rated 4T2 in accordance with the Royal Navy classification), she is perfectly balanced to meet the challenges and opportunities posed by the new lands.

Rigged with a combination of square and lateen sails, she is fast and agile at all points of the wind, and able to outrun many an enemy. However, should push come to shove, she is armed with eight long 12-pounders, and able to hold her own in any fight, making her a safer investment than most alternatives.

Her large cargo capacity ensures the potential for great economic gains, and the seaworthy construction of a carrack minimizes the risk of damage to ship or cargo.

All in all, the "Sulky Harlequin" is a sound investment for the astute businessman, the educated entrepreneur, or the adventurous scientist.

Shares:

The venture has been divided in 10 shares, 3 of which will belong to the captain, Captain Aiden Coyle.

Further, the three initiators (Mr. Aiden Coyle, Don Isaac Montoya, and Sir Thomas Smaugton) have each invested 45 doubloons in the venture, thus leaving 4 shares in open offering.

Each share is offered at 45 doubloons, giving total proceeds of 315 (7x45), against the 300 required for licensing the vessel. The additional 15 doubloons will be included in the first profit calculations of the venture.

Shares will be offered to citizens of all empires. However we caution citizens of Oleon that because of tensions between our empires, our interests may be conflict.

Furthermore, these shares are only offered for a limited time. Should we not raise enough funds to license this ship this month, this offer will either be amended or withdrawn.

Profit shares:

Each share will entitle the holder to 10 % of the venture's profit, payable each month, unless otherwise decided by the general assembly. (See below)

As such, all investors will achieve break-even the moment the enterprise has brought in a total profit of no more than 450 doubloons!

Voting rights:

Each share holds 1 vote, for a total of 10 votes in the general assembly. As the captain maintains 4 votes, 5 shareholders in concert will have the ability to overrule his dispositions.

In the event of 5 vs. 4 (Captains vote) + 1, the five shareholders will be considered the majority.

Special rights of shareholders:

Each shareholder will be eligible for items of special scientific interest collected during the voyages of the Sulky Harlequin. These will be distributed by a principle of significant interest, allowing shareholders to request specific types of items, be it of anthropological, cultural or biological interest. (In-character condition, with no impact on the EGS!)

Transferability of shares:

Shares are transferable at market prices on the Corrington Stock Exchange. However, all transfers must be approved by the Captain and two shareholders.

Risk profile:

The risk profile will be decided by the general assembly by way of common vote. However, to protect the investors in the still uncertain environments of New Terra, initial missions are expected to be low risk trading missions under Royal Navy escort.

However, neither captain, company, nor any investor can be held liable for losses incurred outside of their initial investment. The risk of total loss of the ship due to force majeure, pirates or similar must be taken into consideration by any potential investor.

Solicitation:

Any contractual conflicts will be handled under the common judiciary systems of Corrington.

OOC: Thanks to Bregir for the stock option write up!

Very nice ship! I really like the back especially, and the white, red, and black colorscheme is very eye-catching! thumbup.gif

I really like the color scheme and details on this boat! I think it looks little top heavy for the length, but overall still a good look! thumbup.gif

First, I love the ship. Very beautiful, and built like it would fit right into the Pirate TLG line. Excellent work.

Second I really love that stock option write up. If I had my own ship done, Woodbrose would be investing right now. I have my property almost finished (A bounty redemption office for Arlinsport) but the ship might not make it out this month, so I would only be at 35DBs. If there is still a share left when I get those builds posted, Woodbrose will send word that he has the cash to help support the venture.

Thank you!

Wow, what a beautiful sight. The sirens have gotten a competitor to their allure.

Thanks!

Thanks! I agree that the stern is a little high. However I could find no other way to fit the extra cabin in...

Very nice! A fine ship indeed!

Thanks! I knew I was forgetting something... The stock option write up was written mostly by Bregir. Looking forward to your builds. The bounty redemption office sounds intriguing!

Amazing ship Mike!

It is very smooth (altough a bit too high at the stern). Like said by Ska, it fits the TLG pirate line!

Approved for sure!

IC:

I, Lord Maximilian Damaximus, am very interested in the stock option and will buy a share with the 45 db's I earned this month!

This making MAESTRO will already have 2 shares in the CSC as Tomsche is also a MAESTRO member :)

Ok, now that I think about it, there may be a slight mathematical problem with sailing this ship this month. As long as each shareholder has done their math correctly, then the license can be bought, but if one of the 7 holders goofs on how much money they have coming in this month, then after the money is transferred, the owner of the ship (Mike S) has already attempted to buy the ship, and plotted the MRCA course, only to find that he never had enough money to buy the license. SO, everyone investing may need to show proof that A) they are going to make 45DBs this month, and B) that they don't have any other expenditures?

Lovely ship! She looks just awesome! I would be very interested in buying a share, but MAESTRO already comitted for 2, and it's not smart to put everything on 1 horse (Dutch proverb, is IT correct English?)

Great build - you matched the colorscheme of Corrington while still letting it look like a real ship. Also a lovely idea selling shares, unfortunately I dont think I have the money for it right now.

Very nice ship Mike, the colors are great, and I really like your high fore and aft castles as well! pirate_wink.gif Great detailing on the back cabin too! thumbup.gif

Myles Bowditch is interested in buying a share of the ship, and will discuss with the ETWC whether to buy the share for himself or on behalf of the company pirate_classic.gif

I love this ship, Mike - the colours give it a very dramatic look, and it has some nice curves in the hull with the red detailing. While the fore- and sterncastles are very tall, I think you have done a good job in making the transitions look good. It looks like a ship from the early age of sail, with the tall fighting platforms fore and aft! :pir-blush:

The curved back is nicely done, as is the captains cabin, and the figurehead is just lovely! :pir-wink:

The rigging is looking good too, and you have included a lot of good details, like shrouds and ratlines all the way up to the crows nest.

Don Isaac Montoya hereby confirms his investment in this venture.

1) Sig fig registration fee 25 DB

2) FB1: Intro build 10 DB

3) FB2: The Sphinx 10 db

For a total of: 45 db

I have no other expenditures.

Glad you like the prospect write up - My clerk is available should you ever need something similar! :pir-wink: (I am actually considering setting up a business for this :pir-tongue:)

It is our hope that Woodbrose will be able to participate in this investment. (Now, Ska, get those two freebuilds out there! :pir-blush: )

I agree that investors should supply "proof" that they are able to fund their investment. However, should one investor happen to have only 35 available, the 15 db buffer in the project could actually allow the venture to proceed (given that the investor puts in the 35 db, and that the rest of the investors accepts him delaying payment for the next month.) :pir-blush:

I am going to reserve a share in this while there's still time:

(25 DBs intro

20 first two freebuilds)

That's not all I've earned this month but no use putting my whole bank account out here! pirate_laugh2.gif

Note:

Technically I spent 5 already on a small property, but I have earned 4 on my third free-build already and should have no problem earning 1 on my ship... at least, I would hope so (and even if that falls through there's always the secretary of state salary).

Interesting to see all 3 Eslandolan Tradelords (owners of a chartered TC) will have a share in this :D

At Kai, won't we receive the db's for a third freebuild only after 3 weeks?

As part of the original charter, I will caution investors that defaulting on payment will have considerable negative consequences for the whole venture.

Thus, one might endanger the execution of the expedition. I am not saying you will face arbitration towards covering lost profits, but I am not saying you wont either! pirate_wink.gif

Therefore, please ensure that you are able to raise the necessary funds!

@Maxim:

Indeed - it is interesting that it is Corlander initiative that attracts so much interest... And might even be bringing the three Trade Companies into closer collaboration! pirate_satisfied.gif

I guess so, now that you mention it, but not only do I expect my trade co. to cover it, but I've got the secretary salary. Trust me, that's more than 5 DBs.

I have no intention of being hung by my toes from the nearest palm tree.

If any one goes in the red this month, I will MOC that! pirate_laugh2.gif
