[MOC] First Order Snowspeeder

Recommended Posts

After seeing the Force Awakens I wanted to built something from it. I started looking at the Lego sets that came with the movie and my eyes fell on the Snowspeeder. If you comparew the Lego version to other toys based on the speeder than you will immediately notice 1 thing; the Lego version is way too big so I decided to rectify that. I started working on my own design and this is what I came up with.

This built is based on the die-cast First Order Snowspeeder model that is a Disney store exclusive. Overal I am very pleased with how it came out.

Here is the Snowspeeder from different angles;

Like with the toy I have also added a "landing gear". It is very simple but does what it is supposed to do.

Finally here are some shots with some crew in the speeder. It can easily fit 2 Troopers sitting down while there is also enough space in the front to accomodate a third trooper just like the real thing.

That's pretty much it. Overal I am very pleased with how it came out so I hope that you all like it as well :classic:

Incredible. You really hit this thing on the head when it comes to scale. Actually, you hit this thing on the head with regards to all of it! I've got the official version on the way for Christmas, but I think I'll just use the parts to build a model similar to your version :moar: . Real shame this wasn't in the movie more. Besides the scale accuracy, I think my favorite part would have to be the brick-built turret. Just plain awesome, man! You've set a high standard for all future MOCs of the FO snowspeeder.

I've been working on one of these for a couple of weeks, but it's going straight back in the parts bin after seeing this! It's outstanding! How did you those walls angled so well?!?

Without a doubt the best MOC I have seen of this yet. The scale is dead on. How did you construct the side walls? Very impressive model!

The side walls are actually very simple they are just 2 of these pieces in dark bluish gray; http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=61252#T=S&O={"ss":"NL","cond":"N","rpp":"500"} connected to this piece in light bluish gray; http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=48336#T=S&O={"ss":"NL","cond":"N","rpp":"500"}.

Great design and build...I think a lot of us will be MOCing this particular vehicle since like everyone has noticed how out of proportion the actual Lego version is. Kuddos!!!

Thank you all very much, I am really glad that you all like it!

Yup really glad with the turret myself, I tried several things but in the end the brick-built way looked the best another plus is that it is very easy to create and modify.

Amazing MOC ...I'm happy to know that the new SW era will keep this series alive for many years! :excited:

Yes, I don't think that there were every any real doubts about SW going away but with these new movies/games/books coming out over the next few years it will be more popular than ever before. Exciting times for us SW fans :sweet:

Nice build ! Perfectly scaled !

It doesn't seems to have a big pieces count, build a small group of those speeders in a patrol would be an awesome diorama ! ;)

Looks great, the scale seems to be perfect! Also really nice that there are barely any studs exposed.

The craft design actually has something to it without all the flashy and unfitting stud shooter gimmicks

It looks pretty nice. Though the bottom is missing? It should look like a boat hull, like it could actually float. I wish I had a screengrab but it's pretty obvious in one of the split seconds it appears in the movie

If you look at the picture of the landing gear you can see the bottom very slightly. I decided to create it with plates instead of using the piece that I originally wanted to as that made the hull way too big. I am still trying to find a solution to make it fit but as of now I decided to go with the plates aproach.

Looks absolutely great! However I don't remember seeing it in the movie...

Thanks! It actually was in the movie, I can't go into details about the specific scene but it was in there albeit very briefly and only partially visible.

I saw, but it should be way "deeper". I don't know how else to explain so here's a picture =P.

Notice how the engines (jet engines, waaaaaaaat????) are below the line dividing the upper and lower part of the speeder, and the bottom is more or less shaped like one of those swamp boat things.

I see what you mean and have begun reworking the lower part. I'm hoping to get some pictures up tomorrow but I can't make any promises.

So I got around to reworking the speeder slightly, I changed the engines (only in a very minor way), added a more visible hull and changed the canon a little bit.

Here are some pictures:

Also here is a picture of the model that I based my speeder on as there are some changes with every model:
