Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Introduction and Starting Thread

Recommended Posts

I would deliberate on Corrington's advantages in length, but apart from the relatively objective descriptions giving earlier, and answering any questions you may have, I do not find it fitting.

I am firmly against the factions cannibalising eachother by trying to convince a prospective player to join their faction over others.

Also, join Corrington, we've got chocolate and coffee! :pir-grin:

So I guess my most burning question is, who has a place in their regime for someone with my talents and ambitions?

Simple answer: All four factions have a place for you. Its up to you to decide which faction has the most personal allure. Everyone has their own reasons for joining a faction. Like me for example would have become a Sea Rat but the deciding factor, as odd as it may seem, were the colors of Corrington's flag.

I find faction recruitment efforts tiring. "Ours is the best Guild/Faction!" Simple fact: there is no "best", just one that may suit an individual builder better than the others.

This.   Keep asking questions and figure out which one suits you best.

I've started a build which will address these things ,but it's a bit more ambitious than I figured, so it's gonna take a day or two to finish. I'll be back then and I think everyone will be amused

I agree, although the trash talk is fun, it is maybe not so nice for new players to be pulled in every direction. I think the suggestion to make a little story following a beginning sigfig, with examples for each of the factions are a great idea.

In other news:

The bounty on Captain Benjamin Morgan's head has been removed. He is once again free to terrorize the Brick Seas as he pleases

Read more about the whys and hows here.

@kurigan

Glad to see you're interested!  The decision is up to you and only you.  Feel free to read over each of the faction threads, they should have some good details in the first post or two.  Although KB did sum it up quite well.

Look forward to seeing your 'intro build'.

On another note:

a town can only have 1 medium fort or two small forts.

So a medium and a small fort are not allowed if I am correct?

Can one unlicence the small fort and licence it as a small residence? (Considering in RL it is possible to live in a fort)?

what is the opinion about this?

Isn't there a paragraph about upgrading forts in the rules? So a small could be upgraded to medium by e.g. adding a watchtower or sth. if I understand correctly.

Fort rules are about to change. Probably this weekend. Someone else from leadership can explain more.

Or, now that I have a little more time, I can continue. Basically, the revised rules will eliminate most of the size restrictions, and the old "upgrade" rules will no longer apply. I'd advise waiting until the new fort rules are rolled out to license a fort.

It should be possible to unlicense a fort as part of the change in fort rules. Whether it could then be re-licensed as a residence, I don't know, but it's a good question.

Maybe someone remembers here - what is the BOBS equivalent of "Neptune"?

Isn't that Poseidon?

Yes, but he is also pleased with Neptune so I wouldn't actually worry

For the record, if one licenses an Art and Culture property, the second page of the webform asks a million questions about what type of product is created. I am pretty sure my art and culture is neither volcanic byproducts, nor rice... :pir-grin:

Wait, what? I don't remember that when I licensed mine. Are you sure you selected the right property type?

What property type is that list supposed to be attached to? Because it came up for Artisan when I licensed one earlier. I just assumed it was a new addition.

I think it may be a residual of a very early system, that is popping up again. :) Don't think it really belongs anywhere.

When I saw it I assumed it was an attempt to automate some of the potential property bonuses. I was excited that the bonus system was getting some love, now you tell me it might be an error! :pir-look:

I figured when I licensed my art and culture property and saw it that if you weren't attempting to 'unlock' a bonus, you simply checked the last box which was something like 'bonus N/A'.....

The additional page will be used to help calculate bonuses. If the list doesn't apply to your property, simply select the None option at the bottom.

In case you haven't already noticed, the islands of the Prio Sea now each come with their individual, blank map. The original versions (click for link to flickr) are all at the same resolution, hence the same scale, which should make comparison easier. So feel free to print them, and glue them to your walls

What is/constitutes and "educational build"?

Any build that is educational:pir_tong2:. It could be the traditional school or university but you could likely claim that a build showing naturalists exploring a new forest, the office of a cartographer, an astronomer's observatory, or midshipmen learning the ropes would qualify as educational builds. Perhaps showing an apprentice adjusting to a new career could qualify, too. Personal judgment is required, but as long as you are reasonable (don't try gaming or abusing the system) and your build is focused on obtaining, recording, or sharing knowledge, you shouldn't have a problem.

If you are in doubt about a specific build or idea, ask your faction leadership for advice.
