Intriguing to see where you land with this - do you have a firm plan/outcome in mind or are you going with the flow as you mod?

I have no plan of this exercise. The pics of MF and 10179 is my main reference.

That final pic looks promising. Scaling down the bodywork from UCS MF seems to be a good approach. I think you should shift these rear circle openings on mandibles more towards the sides. One stud shift should give you the right position.

Oh, my sweet summer child. A modified Falcon is never finished...

What he said, with studs on  .

Five years in, and I'm still finding stuff to tweak and improve...

its looking a bit better. what you NEED to do though, is adjust position of the cockpit. It needs to go back further, the "tunnel" to the cockpit should be more at a 30 degree angle rather than a 45. Also, i am wondering why you are going in the direction of making the plates on top more like the UCS version, rather than the orginal model? I am impressed with how you got them to fit together well. but it seems unnecessary, Especially since you didnt change the outer edge structure. The original technique had captured the sloping dish shape better I thought.

looks good

people might be able to build this if they cant afford the 10179 USC version becase it looks very much like it so far

good job!

Thx to all reply.

Yes, it just look like a small copy of 10179,

Day 9

Good job!

Its cool how it still opens up and you did a really good job on making the radio dish look like the real thing withought any stickers

Your mandibles seem way to thick (vertically) to me. Also the hull plates should lay more flat. So far it's forming to steep dish, making the irregularity between flat sections and edges more visible.

Day 10

Lower the height of the central circle and adjust the rear top plate.

Day 11

Modify the height of rear edge and top plate joint to adjust the top plate's slope.

Good job lowering the height so the whole thing overall is lower. It's going to be a bit tricky to fill in those gaps around the middle. Have plans for the greebling to add too?

Dunno bout the mandibles, using this scale further exaggerates whats wrong with ucs version. The geometry is wrong and just looks too big. I mean it looks pretty much like a smaller UCS falcon, spot on if that is your intent, but that is a flawed model to start with. Going the opposite way would probably end up with a better looking model.

Agreed, and ironically the 6x2 arches are the solution to the problem on the UCS version, but here they are far too big.

^perspective forms the view quite a lot. Pics taken from the front would suggest the mandibles are way to large, yet I think that top view (which is the most relevant) would reveal it's not that much off.

6x2 arch doesn't give correct angle for the mandibles anyway - these old wedges with 7x3 angle are much better. UCS model 'cheats' a bit by going wider with the side greebling (toeards the hull) so the result looks quite good.

What concerns me more is the thickness (height) of the mandibles here. It's quite bulky.

Thanks to all reply and suggestion, It really help a lot for my mod work.

Day 12 & 13

Modify the top plates slope, the high of the edge and fix the gap again and again

Just an idea - since this is turning into quite complex mod, isn't that shame to stick with 'all studs up' concept, especially for the mandibles? Would be serious improvement to reverse the bottom plates. Later on, if you manage to stick on some hull plating from the underside, you can stop calling this 'mod' but 'moc' instead :D

The Millenium Falcon is the most well-known Star Wars spaceship issued by LEGO group. Have you already seen the LEGO version of Episode VII teaser? What's your opinion?

As captain Solo said - we are at home!

This mod just keeps getting better and better!

You should add some landing gear (maybe it could retract/extend?)

Do you have any pics of the underside?

Good job and keep up the good work!
