[REVIEW]: 75111 - Darth Vader

Recommended Posts

Set Name: Darth Vader

Set #: 75111

Theme: Star Wars

Pieces: 160

Minifigures: 0

Year of Release: 2015

MSRP: USD $29.99

Found this in a local LEGO affiliate. Decided to give it a try. I just want to say that I've yet to have such figures so this is a new thing for me :)

Box/Instructions

The box is medium sized. What you notice first is that it's made out of a more thick paper than the usual ones.

The back of the box shows other available "Battle Figures" but I didn't get neither of them.

Inside you can find 4 unnumbered bags + instructions and a cape.

The instructions simple & clear. Nothing extraodinary. I did like some of the techniques used but it is mostly TECHNIC and I bet everyone who had similar figures won't find anything new here.

Parts

4.jpg12.jpg13.jpg14.jpg15.jpg16.jpg17.jpg11.jpg

the set comes with 160 pieces. The bare parts are TECHNIC. I don't think there's anything new here. The armour itself is quite nice and has couple of parts exclusive to this set (EDIT: ADDED THE NEW PIECES PHOTOS!). The head of Vader of course is a new piece and it looks REALLY nice. The Cape looks and feels nice, but later on you will see that the way it's attached is VERY unsatisfying... || After the build you're left with 5 additional pieces.

The build

5.jpg6.jpg7.jpg

The build was pretty easy and took me about 20 minutes to complete. Like I said before there's nothing amazing here especially if you've been playing with TECHNIC or other similar figures. You start the build with the torso, then build the legs, arms and in the end you attach the cape & the head.

The competed model

8.jpg9.jpg10.jpg

AAAaaaaaand it's complete. As you can see here the cape is attached with a TECHNIC piece. At first I thought it was clever but later on I discovered that because of that, there's no way of having the cape over the shoulders and that it sometimes swings back on the sides. Other than that the figure is indeed quite big but again, that'd probably be only "the thing" for everyone who hasn't had contact with such figures before.

The competed model

Honestly... It's a bit MEH. I did not have high hopes for the set yet I decided to give it a try. It is a bit hard to make it stand like you want, but then again you can move the legs & arms quite a lot. As you can see he can hold the lightsaber either both hands or one hand which is quite cool. I think it might be a bit too delicate for a normal "child abuse" so I'd probably buy it more as a nice looking set rather than a playset.

Parts: 9/10

Build: 7/10

Price: 7/10

Design: 7/10

Playability: 6/10

Overall: 36/50 = 72%

Nice review, with good photos! In terms of new parts, there are only five actual new molds: the lightsaber blade, the lightsaber hilt, the head, the cape, and the shells that cover the shins.

One build error I see — the shells on the upper legs should be attached to the sides, not the front.

Thanks! And yes you're right! they should be attached differently lol. Here comes my lack of experience with such figures. thanks!

As for the new parts - I looked at brickset and photographed every part that was only in this set but now i realised it could just be different colours.

Also I see this was moved in the forum :)

oh and now I see there's already been a review of this set here :( ... sorry!

I must say, it's pretty annoying that all Star Wars construction figure discussion must be confined to the Action Figures forum. I get the reason for it, but it's still inelegant and annoying. Oh, well.

Are you talking about me? I take the position all LEGO is worthwhile, and I have nothing against action figures. I'm just not crazy about having to leave the LEGO Star Wars forum to discuss LEGO Star Wars sets.

I don't even have an issue with them being discussed here; they clearly fall into this realm, too, as they're constraction figures. I just don't get limiting all discussion of them to just this one forum, since they obviously fit both. To me, it would make much more sense to just discuss them in both places, and not move topics that arise over there into here.

Chill out man, if you read carefully what I wrote you'll understand that I was actually agreeing with you. I find this separation stupid too: it's always Star Wars, it's always LEGO, so no concrete reason to banish the CCBS sets in a different section of the forum.

It is no problem, having more than one review of a set is never a bad thing- different photos, different thoughts etc are all encouraged! While I have been fortunate enough to be able to provide early reviews of Action Figures sets since Invasion from below, that does mean I am always doing the reviews and I don't want it to scare anyone else off from sharing their own reviews.

Technically that argument can be reversed- Some people may not be pleased about having to leave Action Figures to discuss action figures if it were the other way around.

I can assure you there was much discussion among the staff when we decided where to put the discussion of these figures. There has still been general discussion about them in the 2015 SW thread in the respective Star Wars forum, it hasn't been completely secluded here, however they were placed here in the same manner as the Chima action figures, the Marvel/DC Superheroes action figures, and the Ben 10 figures, all of which were separate from where their system counterparts usually lie.
