Hi Xon67. Great job. Can you please repost the lxf file link (or maybe Brickshelf) for Emmet's street buildings? I want to use it for my city but every time I click on a Brickshelf link in the first page, it takes me to flickr.

Thanks!

@DanK. Emmet's mech has a number of unattached, floating parts, including the wheels on the feet.  Making the mech stand up in a physical build will take a little work.

@theironpotato. The couple LDD files that I have posted are called out below the associated images.  All of the images link to Flikr.

This is the Octan control room.

@Hart New Bob  I look back at what I've built over the last three years and it sure adds up, doesn't it?  LEGO had one church set back in 1958.  I guess it has become politically incorrect since then to include them...  Still, I'm glad they did, even if it is devoid of all iconography.

@theironpotato  I worked on this one on and off for almost a year.  I tend to work on several models at once and go back and forth between them.

@Kapp  Thanks!  I'm still working on a few more that I hope you enjoy.

I still have a few more Bricksburg and Octan builds to complete and post.  For now, I'm taking a detour into the Old West to Flatbush Gulch.  Check out the link in my signature below!

@Hart New Bob. I don't know about TLG's rules, but it seems to be more and more politically incorrect to offend anyone religiously, unintentionally or otherwise.  That may be why the only church set LEGO released was back in the 1950's.

I have added a render of the water tower with Hot Tub Harry in my old west topic.  It's guaranteed to be free of offending religious content and may only offend those who are easily upset by farts and potty trained pigs.  Enjoy!

Doesn't TLG have a rule not to include Churchs? (among other things)

I find it strange that there's a church.

...But not the dozens of Christmas-themed sets released every winter? Santa Claus minifigures, advent calendars (City, Friends and even Star Wars advent calendar for crying out loud), decorated pine tree builds, mistletoe, carolers, nutcrackers. The non-religious stance went out the window a long time ago and Lego clearly favors only one religion. Any children of any other religion, nope your beliefs are fake.

Well considering all of those have a much bigger basis in Old Norse and areas of dark forested Germanic pre-christian tradition or Victorian canonised fictions in relation to the winter period. Also plenty adopted from the pagan winter traditions of Celtic and Gaelic areas (There may be a bit of the old Saxon tradition, but most of my reading was more into my Welsh roots and the mythology of Nordic areas. Then onto Germanic traditions due to my interest in the stories the Grimms collected). I do not see why it is any sort of religious bias as there is absolutely no iconography.

The fact that the important festivals of other groups are still deeply rooted in religious observance instead of hijacked into commercialised advertising campaigns is probably why it can't be scraped together into a claim that LEGO represents them. The winter village sets, when looked at objectively, are simply a European village in winter, sure one set had overt tones of celebration but the rest are slightly more complex town builds with a white roof for snow and a few cold weather activities.

So, please cool you jets and calm down a little.

Christmas seems like a pretty neutral holiday IMO. (At least they are not bringing out the more religious stuff in the sets) + Skipping the biggest holiday of the year would be a bad thing for TLG to do.

EDIT: I didn't even see your post Peppermint_M.

There was no animosity or aggression in my post to suggest that any jets need cooling so I'm not really sure what that is about, if you feel there was then my apologies if you were offended. However where those items originated from doesn't really matter in the context of how they are viewed today, that'd be like saying the swastika has a much bigger basis in the Indian subcontinent despite the vastly different modern usage, view and opinion. Defining any one of those items academically reveals that they are explicitly Christian and the sets are timed specifically for that holiday. So while you might only see a European village in the season of winter with fluffily snow a child raised in Islam or Buddhism might see otherwise.

Lego has done other sets with (admittedly small) religious ties to other religions, far more subtle than the blatantly obvious Advent Calendars or Santa Claus, but none as longstanding or recurrent as Christmas:

http://godbricks.blogspot.com/2009/05/official-lego-sets-with-religious.html

To bring this back to the subject of the thread at hand there are even those on both sides who think The Lego Movie is both pro-religion and anti-regligion:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/12/lego-movie-religious-themes_n_4775830.html

https://kevennewsome.com/2014/02/25/the-lego-movie-one-of-the-most-anti-christian-movies-ever/

The opinions in these articles are reading and possibly reaching a bit too far, but for one claiming to not see any connection to a specific religion with the winter sets in discussion is a tad denialist.

New Hart Bob made two separate posts prior to mine mentioning how they thought it odd that there was a church that made a small appearance in The Lego Movie. I elaborated further on their point there are many more religious aspects in official Lego sets. Not sure why one is getting more attention than the other, how dare one point out anything. I'm not discussing offensiveness or sensitivity, the reply was addressing the original two posts mention that Lego used to stay away from religion. I couldn't care either way, I never once stated whether Lego should or shouldn't make these sets. It is a discussion and I was just adding to that discussion that Lego already has.

Hmm.

But alright. :shrug_confused:

However, lets keep things off the topic as it is on the list of forum don'ts.

Thanks.

Were we being politically incorrect about being politically incorrect?

P.S. I'm easily offended by jets.

It was intended as sardonic/tongue in cheek but I can see how it reads a bit too grim (what was said was not what I believe). I'll leave the sardonicism out in the future and avoid discussing/responding to that topic. Thanks for understanding Peppermint_M, Hart New Bob and Xon67, much respect.

Back on topic, very excited Xon67 now building the Dry Gulch/Flatbush Gulch/Old West structures from the movie as well. You are a master building machine.

@Hart New Bob I'm not entirely sure, but I think I just might quite possibly be offended by that...  ;-)

@koalayummies. Thanks again.  And... Ya got me...  I called the town by the wrong name.  It's fixed now.

Can you link your topic?

Edit: Never mind, it's in your footer

I've just about wrapped up my posts in the Old West topic.  There aren't nearly as many good references of Flatbush Gulch as there are of Bricksburg, so there aren't as many models for me to build there.

For now, I made a quick detour back to Octan.  Here's Lord Business' flying cube from Finn's basement.

Denmark is a Scandinavian country and there someone with a decorated tree and exchanging presents is just as likely not be Christian. Most of the winter village sets are just rustic snow-covered buildings with a winter theme; even Santa is fairly secular figure. There really haven’t been any WV sets with overt religious overtones. Even the small Easter sets have more to do with the pagan ideas of fertility and rebirth than Jesus rising.

From a strictly American viewpoint I can see why you would think otherwise.

@gotoAndLego. Interesting thoughts.  Thanks for sharing.  Here's a thought:  Is it possible, while attempting to be politically correct, to offend people through what is omitted?

I've added buildings to the downtown plaza I originally used in my Christmas raffle entry.  I'd like to show more in the image, but this pushes the boundaries of what LDD will do on my machine.

Sure, and some people will just be offended.

Regardless, your Bricksburg looks great.
