Updating Your Minifigs

Recommended Posts

Think I owe an apology to @Moff Muffins. I tried out a pair of jerk-14 legs on a snowtrooper and they look really good in person. The top half looks like a better looser fitting trouser whilst having printing that looks like knee pads and boots. Will have to order a few more now.

I have a side question. It seems there is a guy in Germany that has houndreds of them on his bricklink store, are these real Lego pieces? I'm always concerned when a store has hundreds of rareish parts in stock, espsically Minifig pieces. How can they get so many?

Sometimes it's a factory leak.

I've found some people that have access to Lego factory extras. I don't think they are supposed to be selling them, but that doesn't stop everyone. Some may also have gotten a lot of 1 part through a LUG. Again, not supposed to re-sell those but those are two options.

I'll be grabbing those legs for my Snowtroopers also. As others have noted when searching BrickLink there are a couple of German sellers who have hundreds of these in stock... along with hundreds of various heads and other parts. Definitely not through splitting sets.

I have a request:

Can someone who has the new Thrawn minifig put this piece:

lego-white-minifig-epaulette-2526-27-405 (the white epaulette) and this piece for his hair? Thanks a lot in advance!

Here ya go

This was my plan from the beginning, when I first saw the Thrawn preliminaries.

Let me know if you like my custom SW Legends minifigs I've posted on flickr.  :classic:

Don't know if those count as updated, but I've seen other customs like Daala and Pellaeon in this thread. I'm assuming EU is fair game on here?

Major Namada from the "Star Wars: Purge" comics

Wes Janson from the X-Wing comics and books

Mirax Terrik from the X-Wing comics and books

Admiral Drayson from the Black Fleet Trilogy

Has anyone tried making their own General Romodi by using the new Alfred bald hair piece (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=12893pb02&idColor=90)? Just curious what it would look like. Hair seems a bit too full still based of his appearance in Rogue One, but probably as close as we're going to get.

Also not sure on a face - maybe with the Doctor's (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3626cpb1444)?

It's too bad we don't have more rank insignia torsos available from Lego. I haven't seen any customs that blend in well for that either.

This was the approximation I did using the old Alfred head.

Maybe just using that head with no hair? That would probably be more accurate than the bald hair piece. Though ever since I saw the Grandpa CMF I knew that piece with some customisation would be great for Lobot (somebody please do that).

These look great, the red ones more so than the blue but that's only because the blue arms are so recognisable as shield agents and that would bug me somehow. That's just me being weird though.

I'm always reluctant to swap out arms and legs because they tend to go all floppy afterwards. Is there a technique in swapping them that  still keeps them stiff after the switch?

I think a Maggie torso painted brown with some decals would be good for a Jawa.
It would probably be a lot more accurate than the current short legs.

The best way to take arms off is to firsy remove the hand piece then when you pull the arm off make sure yo're touching as much arm surface area as you can.

Its not a sure fire method though. In my experience I dont usually get wonky arms.

I love printed parts, and I love color coordination. Here is an example:

They are from the Deadshot Minifig, which goes rather cheap on Bricklink:

I've found that wonky arms usually result from the type of arm I'm trying to attack to the type of torso. If it's a China based arm into a Denmark based torso, they are loose. But put the same arm back in the original torso and everything's tight again.

Thanks, That's an interesting insight and is logical reasoning as different factories may have slightly different tooling and tolerances. "Attacking the torso with the arms" is probably where I'm going wrong if I'm honest lol.

I'm full of questions today but I'll ask one more because you guys are really helpful. How do you tell what's Chinese and Danish made parts?

All CMFs and Pick-a-Minifigure pieces are Chinese. Beyond that I don't know how to tell beyond the obvious quality difference. It's most noticeable in the shade of yellow on the hands to me. Just take a CMF and compare it to a fig from an official set and you'll see how the Chinese figs have a pale-r yellow.

I think the Saw Gerrera problem may have been solved with the new CMF series. The retro spaceman (middle first row) is a perfect base for the figure. It has nice printed arms and dual moulded legs in the right colours. I would rub off the orange flashes on the torso, put the Ironman aqua suit armour on it, give it a robot right leg and bingo!!

another small update:

Finally I got dark orange hands for Admiral Ackbar. For Admiral Raddus I found a pair of old dark gray hand, which are closer to his head color:

I really love those tank troopers. Naturally i had to give them arm printing (Syndrome CMF). I also do NOT like it, when the flesh color of the head shows under closed helmets. Most of my imperial troops have the black balaclava head, but here I went with white ones with mask (from Batman I believe):

Even though Tank Troopers have shoulder arm those arms look fabulous on them. What figure are they from?

The Raddus update is intriguing I might have to try it.

The arms are from the Disney collectible minifig Syndrome (it looks to me as if you used his legs for your troopers?)

Love your rebel troops, they look diverse yet still coherent.

How did you get Moroff taller?  oops, didn't see the plates :-)
