Controversial LEGO YouTubers

Recommended Posts

All the commotion in the BrickQueen vs BrickSpy thread lead me to think that there should be a general thread dedicated to people like BQ...so discuss here!

Recommend the Brick Truth blog about the controversy, hasn't been updated in a while - but good reads. I'm against LEGO tubers because they are in it for money, not for the LEGO.

I enjoy having no spoilers of play features, as well.

Now there are some Lego YouTubers I adore, mainly Jangbricks and Just2Good, the latter of which I knew on this site before discovering his channel, but Brick Truth I remember being on fire during the J2G/BQ incident or her video about being given the axe from Cuusoo because of the Jurassic Park set, or being disappointed the BTTF set sold out before she could get her hands on it to review, etc. But Brick Show is a big target for that blog too, IIRC. Thing is Brick Show, while I love their NYTF coverage and their reviews are corny in the fun way, I prefer just getting the straight facts with little filler, something Jang and J2G excel at.

The main controversal BrickTuber, as I call them, was Brick Queen for all the reasons mentioned above, where in the other thread, her subscribers are dropping like flies. If there are any others, I'm not aware of them, since having so much controversy over a toy is kind of pathetic.

I think there needs to be little perspective about how much money people are making on YouTube.

From what I could gauge an account might get $1 for every 1000 views so even looking at something with 50,000 views will get them all of $50. From what I can see BQ gets from 5k to 30k views per video... That's not going to put anyone on easy street is it? Factor in the time it takes to put a video together and your time is barely being covered!

It's probably enough to pay for your Lego habit but you'd have to like Lego quite a lot in the first place to make that much of an effort into getting your sets paid for.

This is all regardless of how good a reviewer someone actually is and whether or not people like / dislike them.

BQ (as said) doesn't care about the fun of LEGO, but the fun of ca$h

If you have a "Lego room" you are not in it for the money. A room is expensive. You look at some of the more popular videos on Youtube and you have people who's apartments don't have a quote-unquote functional living room because of Lego. I'm not a fan of the person that you're speaking of at all, but at the same time I'm not going to question their love of Lego.

I had a lego room in my basement, but just recently decided to move it to a New room because I needed more space, lol. It is not complete, I need to build a bigger table. I use my room for 2 reasons, I wanted to have a place to display my lego world, as well as a place where I could make brick films. I made a film (in the editing process at the moment) in my old room, but I had to move the sets that I wasn't using, which was a pain. I want a world where it is big enough to do both. Which considering my world contains pirates, means I need to have space for an actual ocean, so it has to be quite large, lol.

Sorry for the off topic rant, but someone said lego room.

I personally don't really like Brickqueen's videos at all, it's obvious she's just trying to get views..seriously, one of her latest videos was a 39 second video with nothing but "Batman vs Hulkbuster, who would win?"

Also, her showing off cleavage in her thumbnails...I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful, I'm just noticing what I see. Oh and wearing that Leia outfit and saying that she was the first person on Youtube to review Lego like that...there's probably a reason for it. Kids watch her videos, that's all I'm saying.

The first three Star Wars movies were rated PG. Many many children saw Carrie Fisher wearing the original costume. I don't think any of us were scarred for life. Of course, if you think Star Wars is too much for kids, I'll certainly respect your opinion. (Kids vary in what they can handle, and parents vary in how they approach parenting.) However, if you do think Star Wars itself is okay for kids, then I don't understand objecting to kids seeing the costume. How is a you tube video of a woman in a revealing outfit more scandalous than a movie that shows the same outfit?

My point is that she seems to be desperately trying to get views by doing anything possible. If she's the top female Lego reviewer because she wears skimpy clothing, there's something wrong.

BQ is wearing the skimpy outfit to get the horny AFOLS to watch her. I can't watch her - do reviewers even need to show their face in general? I feel like it's unnecessary for LEGO

Exactly.

Besides comparing her to Carrie Fisher from 1983 is not a far comparison. I'm not going to say anything negative here, but their was a reason why Carrie made that iconic in the first place, so of course she didn't scar anyone, but she was object of many a horny teenagers fantasy after. So again like or dislike the outfit, it does take away from what the point is supposed to be about.

Well the whole conversation is about why she's controversial.

Honestly she's the only female Lego reviewer I know out there, so she may as well be a monopoly. That said, I think she feels as though she can get away with anything and still have that status until another female AFOL reviewer steps up to the plate and she has competition in her gimmick.

Jangbricks normally doesn't show his face. But when he did, I think he had to tell some people off. (youtube.com/watch?v=vyCu1m3nBLE)

"As always, RUDE comments about how I look "tired" or "sick" or what not are NOT welcome. I look like what I look like. Everybody looks like what they look like. Treat people how you would like to be treated, yourself."

Jang is a class act, which is why I love him. He doesn't take any crap, but does it in a sedate way, which is a nice break from other reviewers who act like they ate a bag of sugar before going on camera.

Horny AFOLs?! Really?!... I'm sure there are much better sites to scratch that itch than a thumbnail of someone holding a Lego set.

It's all a bit specialist for my liking... I'm a fan of Lego but I don't think I have those kind of needs....

I don't like most Lego youtubers, but I do like Just2Good, Solid Brix Studios, and Jang. Most of the other Lego youtubers are just out for views, not for the Legos, which I kind of find disingenuous.

I don't have a problem with anyone making money, but some of those videos are plain lazy when it comes to anything apart from acquiring sets as fast as possible before others.

There is this general opinion in the states that you study for a certain profession, and then you are the only person qualified to handle equipment for which you have a "degree" and you can't go near anything else.

Well here's some news for you, You don't need to be a professional camera man, narrator, compositor and photographer to know how to do all of these things properly, or at least show some ambition and perfect your skills so you stand out from the average kid on youtube that got a gopro for christmas.

Another thing you shouldn't need a special school for is manners. Shouting at your viewers in fake enthusiasm and playing violent jingles is just plain annoying.

Show me a video where the reviewer doesn't either drop the camera view to their carpet or can't fit something in the frame while continuing to ramble on excuses about having a too something to show it properly.

Show some effort, your lighting is bad? buy a f****** lamp!!!

I stopped looking at any videos a while back...got tired of them. I only liked Brickformula (actually had a script and could do it well), and he stopped making videos...so no biggie. I might look at the official Lego stuff, but even that is tiresome to me...

I get around this big debacle by watching Artifexcreations. Reviews are good, if you want i nice look at the figs build and overview. Best part theres no "person" involved. Plus, have you SEEN there black ops gunship or tumbler or ninjago mechs?!?! It's amazing!

Thanks for all the support for everyone who did here! I really try my best, and I'm flattered!

I miss that guy, man. I wonder where he went. He always had some cheesy jokes, but always put out a high quality review.

I forgot about Artifex. His videos I wouldn't necessarily call reviews per say, but they're still fun to watch and they showcase the set's features without a single word.
