Classic Space builds - Real life brick builds

Recommended Posts

In this thread you will find my own Classic Space space vessels, exo-bases and ground vehicles.

Cosmic Explorer

24730674676_ec98922bd4_z.jpg

Built in 2012-13 for the Classic Space Supreme Commander, Benny the 1980-something space guy. It came equipped with a pocket for Unikitty during the Battle for Octan Tower. After the battle, this pocket was removed. (Unikitty turned down Benny's offer for a commission to Classic Space command, and has set out as a director actor in Movies & TV. See her latest film, "Johnny Thunder & the Temple of Gloom" for more info.) The area was replaced with a canopy for the crew to see outside from their stations near the Imagination Reactor, while the sensor array was replaced by a four-barrel repeating laser turret. This ship in it's original form (plus it's pilot Benny and his freinds) are featured in The LEGO Movie.

24730673996_5c505a2ba0_z.jpg

Here you can see the inside of the vessel. Their are three seats up front in the main cockpit, and four more seats in the rear compartment. You can also see the rear turret tuned and elevated. It's design was inspired by fighter and bomber airplanes of Earth history.

24130041923_d1d7b59b9d_z.jpg

The ship's stats:

Ship Name: Cosmic Explorer

Model: LL929 “Voyager” class Command Cruiser

Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards

Engines: 3 Mega Imagination Reactors

Max Speed: 5,100 MPH

Weapons: 4 forward-fixed laser hi-pulse guns & 4 turret-based laser hi-pulse guns

Max Hyper Speed: 80% speed of light

Deep Space Fighters

24756878635_e845e87512_z.jpg

These ships are deep space fighters of the Galaxy-class. Each seat one figure and have enhanced hyper-drive making it nearly as fast as LL-929. (Benny's spaceship) This ship was designed to be a heavily-armed fighter, and features an enclosed cockpit allowing for long distance travel such as from system to system if in an emergency.

24730674446_085e041059_z.jpg

Here is the cockpit, which can seat 1 pilot figure.

24130040703_c8d043f255_z.jpg

The ships' stats are identical for both vessels:

Owner: Classic Space Command

Model: “Galaxy” class deep space fighter

Manufacturer: Classic Space Shipyards

Engines: 2 Imagination Reactors

Max Speed: 3,100 MPH

Weapons: 4 forward-fixed laser hi-pulse guns

Max Hyper Speed: 50% speed of light

Benny's Classic Space automobile

24389233669_46058cc1d8_z.jpg

This car was originally built by Benny to be used to shuttle himself to his work at Classic Space Command HQ and secret master builder meetings, and eventually to his SPACESHIP(!)'s hanger after the end of Octan Corporation hostilities. The ship was not featured in the film made about those events, but nonetheless was seen in the studio parking lot as Benny drove it to play himself in the movie. It currently is stationed on the planet Zonia, where Benny (along with all the other Classic Spacemen) lives.

24130041523_89480d3e80_z.jpg

The inside of the car features two seats, opening doors, and steering wheel, among other devices / abilities.

24389233769_df3b27d3fc_z.jpg

The rear of the car features the Classic space logo, identity plates, and double taillights.

Statistics for the car:

Owner: Benny the 1980-something space guy

Model: “Meteor” class vehicle

Year built: 1978

Manufacturer: Classic Space Motors

Power-plant: V6 Imagination-fueled engine

Max Speed: 80 MPH

Classic Space security forces' Exo-Terrain Vhicle (ETV)

21913982038_db7dc98ed0_z.jpg

This model was heavily inspired by set 75916: Dilophosaurus Ambush from the Jurassic World sets. I have turned it into a Classic Space vehicle by subtracting most of the features and adding the CS logo to this piece on the hood: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=30363pb021 and a space seat for the driver.

22111914801_5ebcf6049e_z.jpg

The rear of the model features a removable spare tire. I plan on getting two of these jeeps for the space base.

Statistics for the jeep:

Owner: Classic Space Command

Model: “Exo -Terrain Vehicle (ETV) class vehicle

Year built: 1988

Manufacturer: Classic Space Motors

Power-plant: V8 Imagination-fueled engine

Max Speed: 95 MPH

LDD file for the jeep: http://www.mocpages....1444615201m.lxf

Classic Space ground command / flight control center

24258858779_2ca9d27c52_z.jpg

I was originally inspired by the 2010 CITY set number 3182 (Airport) to make this improved control tower for my Classic Space base MOC. It is supposed to feature Classic Space printing on the blue 4 x 2 slopes, like this: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=30363pb021 The front of the building also features a Classic Space statue, which can either use a Regular white astronaut torso, or the statue torso from Space Police III line.

23999781863_cac1ca7abd_z.jpg

Here you can see the inside of the model, with the second floor and roof being removable from the first floor.

On the ground floor is Command and Control, also known as C&C. This is where the ground forces are dispatched and fighter squadrons are launched. It is also where communications are tracked, recorded and, if necessary, relayed to other bases / space vessels / commanders.

The second floor is where Benny the 1980-something space guy's office is. it features a desk with telephone and lamp, a bed for those long nights working on battle plans / spaceship designs, and a model space base for when he needs to get away from it all.

(the back of the model has blank walls, no details , and as such is not shown)

LDD file for the command center model: http://www.moc-pages...1453820529m.lxf

Comments, questions, and complaints welcome!

I really like the Benny's SSS update without the gimmicks. I think I will do that to mine whenever I get around to building it.

I was never into classic space (it was before my time) but it still seems like a nice set either way.

Keep up the good work.

Incredible work! I especially like the second one  Great car too :classic:

Thank you. They were inspired by a model seen in Benny's LEGO Movie character poster that featured parts that don't exist in the correct colors. I modified it into what you see here by adding (among other thing) larger wings, a better cockpit, and an elongated nose. The car is way cooler in real life... i couldn't get a good view of it all at once.

Thanks! Benny's ssS is great without all those features, but they do it to appeal to kids, so whatever keeps LEGO space in the mainstream, I'm fine with it. By the way: Classic Space ended in 1988, which is six years before I was even born!

This space base was inspired by set 75919: Indominus Rex Breakout. I saw the first images of the set immediately thought of Classic Space, due to large amounts of blue and light / dark grays.

Anyway, the base is modular, and consists of 10 straight wall sections, 4 corner sections, 1 main gate (for land vehicles) and 1 control tower. The model can comfortably fit Benny's spaceship and cane also fit two of my Galaxy class deep space fighters.

18336434128_37b4bdb2c4_z.jpg

I plan on including some Jurassic World jeep's to the base for patrolling outside the base, along with Benny's Classic Space 1984 Comet automobile that I have built.

NOTE: The LDD file does not include the spaceship or land vehicles.

18497805676_77a51ce4f9_z.jpg

Here is the main gate. It can open up to allow ground vehicles though. Two of these go next to the gate where the un-printed slopes are: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=30363pb021

17903522183_e4b52c7bd0_z.jpg

This is one of ten walls sections, held together with the other modules by four Technic pins.(two on each side)

This is one of four of the corner modules.

18336433768_ca2c1c9e06_z.jpg

This is the control tower, which is supposed to contain computers for controlling landing space ships. Unfortunately, I forgot to add the computers in there. Oh well!

(Sorry for the triple post: but here is the rest of the CS models I made today.)

18509625326_49fac87056_z.jpg

The model also has less random colors on the inside to reduce the price.

18537991891_8185890e43_z.jpg

The rear of the model features the removable roll-cage. I plan on getting two of these jeeps for the space base.

Thank you!

The space car / jeeps should be next on the to-buy list after I get my train project sorted out.

Just a tiny update: The space base's LDD file and pictures were updated today to include a second floor for the control tower plus two staircases to the wall-top walkways from the ground floor. There is also access to the top floor of the tower from the second floor of the control room. All the modules lock together / come apart at the Technic pins, and they are now grouped as such/

18349836119_ec2facf10f_z.jpg

I was inspired to build this model after seeing the dark red half-track / truck in set 60071, Hovercraft Arrest. The model looked easy to duplicate, but it proved difficult to create an exact copy. I then decided to take it in a another direction and create a generic American 1950's car, which eventually got turned into this version of Benny's Classic Space themed automobile.

18348245518_a9b6585d2f_z.jpg

The model features a row of space-ship styled seats and "double" tail lights. (I used a trans-red grille to create a nice effect.) the white tile above the rear bumper is supposed to be Benny's license plate. This part goes on the sloped rear of the car: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30363pb021

Here we see Benny with the latest house for him: the classic (space) townhouse.

18621472470_26ee0341d1_z.jpg

This building was originally the Brick City Depot 'Winter Village - Victorian House" model before I added a back half with stairs, new roof, removed the snow, reworked the front brickwork into actual brick-bricks and about a half dozen other things. Here is a link to the original model so you can comapre the differences: https://www.brickcit...victorian_house

18811784521_6a6b44e461_z.jpg

The inside of the house features a bed, desktop computer, lamp on table, telephone, stove, Benny's SPACESHIP! micro-model and a couch. The attic is empty... for now.

18623008049_9800f6ab37_z.jpg

Like most of my model, the house opens on a hinge and locks shut on a Technic pin.

The car, mini-figure, and house are included in this LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1434991153m.lxf

You may be wondering why Benny is living in a Victorian townhouse. Here is the answer:

Built as a Victorian townhouse, this two story home was completed the same week Halley's Comet passed by Earth in 1910. The building quickly became known as the Comet House, and was purchased from the original owners' family by Benny the 1980-something space guy in 1984.

Here is my newest part of the Classic Space Base MOD!

19504831035_1343ee2a86_z.jpg

This space base was inspired by Jurassic World set number 75919: Indominus Rex Breakout. I saw the first images of the set immediately thought of Classic Space, due to large amounts of blue and light / dark grays.

Anyway, the base is modular, and consists of 10 straight wall sections, 4 corner sections, 1 main gate (for land vehicles) and 1 (new & improved) control tower. The whole base can comfortably fit Benny's spaceship and can also fit two of my Galaxy class deep space fighters and two Classic Space (Really Jurassic World) Jeeps.

19504828535_04fb438bda_z.jpg

I was inspired by the 2010 CITY set number 3182 (Airport) to make this new-and-improved control tower for my Classic Space / Jurassic World MOD. It is supposed to feature Classic Space printing on the blue 4 x 2 slopes, like this: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=30363pb021 Because of the Technic pin connections to the walls for the base, the second level / roof sections are not removable. However, the back of the building is open, so that partially solves the problem.

18883998443_ffdb4e127a_z.jpg

The inside is not furnished, but could possibly feature either computers for controlling the base or Benny's office. The choice is up to you what is in there, just like as the old LEGO tagline goes: "Just imagine..."

LDD file: http://www.mocpages.com/user_images/80135/1436302423m.lxf

(NOTE: No spaceships / ground vehicles are included with LDD file for the base!)

sorry for the bump, but I built Benny's car back in July, and photographed it the day after making the above post. i then promptly forgot about it, until now.

19343998638_c612d8189e_z.jpg

also, I updated the Classic Space Jeeps:

21913982038_db7dc98ed0_z.jpg

The front hood should feature this print: http://www.bricklink...sp?P=30363pb021

The model features a removable roof and spare tire. I plan on getting two of these jeeps for the space base.

Here is the LDD file for the jeep: http://www.mocpages....1444615201m.lxf

Once again I have made changes to the first post and it's models therein. Here is Benny's newest ride:

23931957309_e8120d30a4_z.jpg

This is based off set 21108. (that's the Ghostbuster's Ecto 1)

24336197005_8c488b693d_z.jpg

Plus, Benny ssS! now has a turret on the rear of thew ship where the antenna / signal array was located . Real pics will eventually be uploaded once the pieces are bought to make them updated In Real Life.
