But for that kind of money I expect a perfect ship.

Agreed, a ship like the Phantom!

Although 1800 EUR is a pretty penny...

For that kind of money, you can buy a couple nice MISB sets or a couple 6285 and 6286 ships and some imperial bases such as 6276 and 6277 I would say. That is a helluva lot more fun to build also instead of just one big - not so well designed but loaded with parts, cannons, minifigs and sails - ship.

It was US $96.85 when I last looked. It'll probably increase too. Funny how auctions tend to do that over time.

19 Cannons, many on swivel bases

I'm curious about what others think. This line from the listing seems to imply that "swivel bases" for cannons are a good thing. Am I the only one who thinks the opposite? :-/ I will go out of my way to avoid them. Why? Because I have lots of these and I like to mount guns on proper carriages.

Does anybody actually prefer these?

I don't like the swivel bases as I don't think they look authentic enough. Much prefer the proper carriages

I already saw this lot for sale last weekend. It is on the net for a couple days already but since I already own the majority of the pieces, do not consider me a candidate for buying this lot.

As for the cannons, I think swivel bases are OK but I prefer the cannons to be fit like ship's cannons and put on simple black 2 x 2 modified plates with wheel holders finished by 4 brown or old grey small cannon wheels. Basically, the way they were used in 6270 Forbidden Island, 6267 Lagoon Lock-up, 6274 Caribbean Clipper and 6285 BSB for instance.

Simple but effective. X-D

They would be more useful to me if they were European based as well. Whilst I am effectively paying half price to the rest of you (Thank you exchange rate) I have to pay international shipping fees and the wait is almost two weeks. Buying and bidding on only British bids, no matter the cost, are cheaper and quicker then Stateside orders. And thats even including the postal strikes we had here recently, in which myself and my sellers were all worried about ten muskets and 8 glaives.

Out of interest, anybody want a musket or 20? I thought I needed spares, and went a wee bit mental on extra weapon orders (joke :-P )

I'm thinking these "eBay report" threads are not very effective.

I'm going to move this one to the Imperial Trading Post Records.

I wouldn't say I prefer them because I think the carriages look better however the swivel bases seem more ecconomical on a crowded deck.

I remember this lot actually. I was gonna bid on it for a while, simple cos it had some redcoats and shakos.

Then I decided to think about it and realised I didn't need all that jazz. But otherwise it looked like a good lot.

As for swivel cannons, I dunno, I understand the need for them, but also hate them as a cheap ripoff... I need more coffee before I can think on this.

The French army is not that very valuable for me because there are only 5 shako's and no red epaulets.

And those are the most wanted/rare parts.

So I wouldn't spend too much money on this one.

Still... The torsos make the auction worth something unless you're a clever laddie who can replicate torso designs and make them look almost like the real thing.

That looks like a reasonably priced lot, especially with the current euro-dollar exchange rate, lots of useful sails, masts and other pieces.

The seller however does not ship to Europe, that's where it ends for me....
