Sure it indicates only capaldi will be in the ideas set.

besides a lot of those figures are possible as of this year: smith, tennant, ecclestone, hurt, Mcgann, troughton, pertwee, Colin baker, Davison. The only ones that require new moulds are hartnell, Ecclestone, McCoy and Tom baker. And lego could easily make them, I mean capaldi, doc brown and countless other new dimensions characters have brand new elements, lego have done hat and hair combine moulds since 2011, the scarf would be the only revolutionary piece really.

I agree, but I thought there were strict rules around Ideas sets - no "new" moulds could be used for Ideas sets? either Lego decide to do away with that principle for Doctor Who, assuming they see the potential value with a lengthy product run/series, so we may see the iconic screwdriver and/or Cybermen heads similar to the one created for the Dimensions set?

however if they decide not to release the screwdriver with the Ideas set, and opt for a lightsabre handle with a coloured stud on the top instead, does that mean AFOLs will be buying the Dimensions sets purely for the figures/parts, and not for the purpose of the set?

I really don't think there's any reason to expect physical versions of any of the "old" Doctors; those from before the series revival in 2005. I just don't see any merit in Lego making them other than appeasing a small group of fans who know/watch the really old Dr. Who. I can only really see Lego building for the past few Doctors--and even then I think it would most likely only be either Smith or Tennant in addition to Capaldi. The other Doctors appear in the game, but that doesn't mean anything--hundreds of characters appear in Lego games and they never see the light of day as physical minifigures.

On a side note, I personally wouldn't be too thrilled with a Dr. Who CMF, simply because of the logistical problems. As I mentioned on Flickr, it would be awful trying to feel out individual Doctors in the bags--they'd all basically be plain jane minifigures with vaguely similar hairpieces. Other than completing the collection of Doctors, I think it would make a poor wave overall.

The screwdriver is in the dimensions set, thus would not be considered an exclusive mold if included in the ideas set. Also if TLG is making further Doctor Who sets any of those elements could be produced and used in the ideas set. TLG just doesn't make new elements solely for the ideas set.

Unless case distribution really took into account the most popular Doctors, I don't think a CMF line would really work. To many new molds for aliens and, as mentioned, very plain Doctors. I could see a lot of CMF boxes being picked over due to this.

I really don't think Lego should have made a special mold for the Dalek, but just a better build. I'm also hoping they make those Dalek bricks in other colors, as the general outline of their Dalek is basic enough to make other colored versions.

To be honest If all there will be is an ideas set I'd be happy with: 12,Clara, missy, Dalek, cyberman and a tardis exterior. It would also sell well with series 9's anticipated premiere and the release of lego dimensions. It's enough for me just to have one doctor who set just to be able to add the doctor and the tardis to my collection. Doctor who and lego have been my two favourite things for as long as I can remember so to see them come together for me is just phenomenal! Plus to have capaldi one of my favourite actors and doctors join the lego universe, again is just mind blowing! If they did make anymore sets/doctors after the ideas one I would of course jump on it but for now one and with capaldi should be enough for me!

I see no reason LEGO can't use the screwdriver in the Ideas set. The rules for Ideas are that they wont produce a new mold specifically for an Ideas project. Nothing in the rules says they can't make a new mold for another purpose (e.g. a Dimensions set) and use it in the Ideas set.

The rule is they wont accept ideas project that is just for a new mold. There no rule against making new molds for ideas sets, its ultimatley part of the evaluation.

If they make the game Dr. Who first then it is not a new mold when making the idea set. Fixed that problem.

This interview pretty much confirms the Doctors (at least the older ones, some of them) are designed pretty purely for the game. They comment on the discussions they had with how to represent the Fourth Doctor's scarf in Lego form in this game. This leads me to believe that Lego doesn't have an official design for the 4th doctor which probably means they're not doing all the doctors atm (hopefully SOMETHING beyond Capaldi though).

My wallet can't take much more of this!

As Tim said, a CMF line would be absolutely ridiculous. Then again, they DID do the Simpsons....

Can I just take a moment to say that I am literally balling my eyes out with joy at every little piece of new info that gets posted to this thread from SDCC? I have waited for LEGO Doctor Who for forever....

As for the Dalek, it looks meh, but holy moly bajoly, did you guys see the Dalek Emperor in the trailer??! Wow.... so, who's up to the task of re-creating it in real life? ;)

The Dalek is a very simple build because of the game. Look for it to be rebuild-able into a vehicle or a weapon. Just like K9 and the TARDIS.

I suspect that whatever Doctor Who related set come from Ideas, the Dalek, if included, will probably be a little different. I think the issue most have with the Dalek is the fact it is not rounded and/or made from specialised bricks as the other brick company did.

BBC's annual report made special mention of their partnership with LEGO for DW. I wonder if that indicates something deeper than an Ideas set and Dimensions. It would be a shame in my opinion to only get one Doctor (though I am biased since Tennant has been my favorite.)

The original Ideas proposal itself suggested a couple different versions of the Doctor, one "classic" and one "new", so I think there's a good possibility there'll be multiple Doctors just in that one set alone. But I do also think there'll be more to this theme than just the Ideas set and the Dimensions packs.

(Shouldn't this be stickied? We do now know there'll be at least three sets, counting the Dimensions ones. Isn't that enough to warrant calling it a theme?)

I'm honestly going to be dissappointed if this doesn't turn into a theme. The Character Building sets were really good for the time they were around, and I feel TLG would be able to do wonders with Doctor Who as a theme.

depends on how long the partnership is, we might get a special Lego Doctor Who special or a Lego Doctor Who game

Hmmm, that's seems like a very reasonable price, so we can certainly expect something substantial but not massive. Now all we need is the pictures!

considering the price for the Avengers Tower is £59.99 (same in USD) for "just" a blue phone box, and some figures (which is what I think most people expected?) that's a MASSIVE mark-up if the image is genuine

however if the set is something like the phone box, an interior including console and some figures - maybe you're looking at something closer to the £59.99 price?

intrigued as to what they're looking to make now..... I doubt it's going to be the Dalek fleet or anything, but a graveyard containing the Weeping Angels could be cool!

What happened to this set? We have been waiting for ages

I didn't even remember it until I saw this thread again.

We don't need anymore themed CMF series.

Amen!
