The new heroes start off their career the right way. Boris is bitten by the rat, but his vampiric nature apparently rejects the poison. Karl preps for battle, and Keliim sweeps his axe, chopping off a tail or a limb or two. The rats are too numerous, however, and get in a good bite or two, drawing some blood from Karl and whatever it is vampires bleed from Boris.

Ouch. Karl spat blood from a mashed lip. Not the first time he'd been splattered there, but the nature of the attacker was what made it so repulsive. "Keliim, finish off rat A, we need to thin their numbers. Boris, keep at the filthy one, you're the only one who can take the poison. I'll target the Big Ugly Rat with my poisoned shrunken from the Back Row."

Boris wiped the red blood from his hand. "Biting me, eh? I'll show you what a bite is mousy." Boris swung his mace at the Filthy Rat from the back row.

Boris heals the whole party, and its a good thing he does because the rats are here in force. Karl gets body slammed by the Big Ugly Rat, and he feels the wind go out of his chest. Boris and Keliim, meanwhile, both get relatively vicious bites. Sir Grady, still drawing a bulk of the hoard and holding them at bay with nothing but his fists, gives the heroes an incredulous look.

Karl gasped for breath as the large rat slammed him into the ground. He somersaulted backwards, losing ground but regaining some blood thanks to Boris's timely intervention. He grit his teeth, looking directly into the eyes of the alpha rat: there was no positive emotion there, nothing Karl normally associated with the animals. With this one, it was kill or be killed.

"Nice one Boris, see if you can heal Keliim! Keliim, try and take out those two smaller rats, we need room to maneuver!" He spun his trusty shuriken between his forefinger and thumb, giving a look that clearly said "You're gonna pay," before flicking the weapon at the Big Ugly Rat.

Healing energy flows through the vampire's body as he brings the party to full health before being beaten down by the rats once again. Gritting his teeth the vampire attacks the Filthy Rat again from the back row. "Too risky, don't want to give them an opening."
