Yeah, I doubt they would all of a sudden say "Your Jungle now. Not Wind." in the middle of the storyline. This is a definite reboot.

And I agree that we probably (99%) won't see Nuva revamps, since these are more of a mix between the Mata and Nuva designs. Unless they go the way of Hordika or Mahri, meaning that the Toa undergo a massive change, they cannot change all that much.

But this is something that's been bugging me: if this is a reboot (almost definitely), and we have the original Toa Mata/Nuva, will we see the Toa Metru? Vakama is my favorite, and I would love to see a revamp of him.

I could see only re-doing the Mata to get the Bionicle vibe started, but I really do hope that we get the Metru......

I imagine that control over wind will be incorporated into Jungle, or some other element.

Also the only reason I can imagine that they decided to bring back the Mata was to establish this line as Bionicle, after this we will probably see lots of new characters, something I'm looking forward too.

I wonder what revamped Toa Inika would be like...

Those would be sweet! Revamps would be leagues better than the originals, since the '06 guys had the horrible rubber-masks. Kongu Inika, without the lame grimace and scales, replaced with a Miru......sweet.......

But I REALLY hope for a (funmetal) Takanuva. Since this is a reboot, and it follows a very similar story (at least, for now), maybe Takanuva isn't such a longshot! We also need Mata Nui back; I don't care who you are, or what era you like: Mata Nui is the best.

But like Refy L. S. said, they will probably venture off into new characters. The Mata are just to get the nostalgic elders back into it, and that'll probably be it. But still......It would be weird to see Tahu and the rest, without the Turaga.

Assuming that their titles are referring to elemental control, and not just "ruler of X". Given the Defenders, I think this is much more likely (not to say they won't have elemental powers, but it's more likely to be unrelated to this title they have).

Yes. Now we should wait and see! :classic:

We've already seen that it was a hoax, though. That's what I was trying to say.

I agree with Refy. It'd be nice to see new characters, with the old characters being used as a reintroduction to the theme.

I would find it quite odd if they actually changed Lewa's elemental power to jungle, considering of all the elements to remove, I would never have suspected one of the basic 4.

I was little bit disappointed with Tahu's mask change, but the original mask looked weird...like it was melting on the bottom. I can see why they wanted to change it, the original kept the style but lacked the cool factor, it simply lacked the systematic design choices the others had, yet was trying to look like the other master masks.

I went and decided to Photoshop the mask bottom to look like the Hau without the excessive Lewa jaw:

Less top heavy version 2:

Tahu with the mask

Wow, that small change made such huge improvement in my eyes! I wish the final one looked like this...

I'm really attached to the idea of a special edition Vezon now. The more and more I keep imagining it after my earlier post, it would probably be the best reference to old Bionicle ever in the case of a DC style reboot where this plot is an alternate reality.

Bonus points for:

LOSS + Vezon combiner.

Have a new piraka-style mask with 2 sides to represent the Olmak fused to his face. It can be flipped to be an olmak or his manic piraka grin.

If Vezon appears I will do something overdramatic that i haven't thought of yet that shows how completely sick i am of Vezon

I would rather have Makuta back than Vezon, and that's saying something.

Yeah, Vezon coming back if other characters were left out would be a bit crap.

why would others have to be left out? The piraka are my favorite bionicle sets ever and would love to see them return along with new inika.

I definitely wouldnt give him a major plot role, it would just be like he pops in and leaves immediately. This reality might not even have its own Vezon, or Staff, or Makuta Teridax. I definitely wouldn't replace big characters like Jaller or Takanuva. Actually, its just as likely dimension-hopping Takanuva could be a special edition set. The concept of either of them doing it is from the idea that they are the original universe's forms of the characters that have a plausible explanation for a cameo appearance in a reboot.

Alright, we really need to stop using "reboot" to describe settings. It has a broad meaning and gets confusing. I recommend specifics like "remake", "continuation" and "alternate timeline/universe". A reboot could be any of those.

So, to anyone who wants a reboot, as it's clearly some type of reboot, I ask you this.

What type?

Personally, I want it to be the continuation type. Not a direct pick up of the old story, far enough to bring in new fans, but not too far so as to alienate old ones with some subtle references.

Combiners, cool!! And a Guurahk blade on Kopaka's staff!

Ohhhh god they look great!! The only one I'm not sure about is Gali.

So can we expect these in stores this year?

But a remake implies that we'll be doing the same things over again (which is unlikely), a continuation is a completely different thing (and, y'know, the opposite), and an alternate timeline would be something else entirely, but connected to a continuation, since it's not as specific and could mean multiple things.

A reboot implies a sense of attempting to draw a new audience by featuring the same elements that they think they want to see, but not in the way it has been done before. Blame LEGO for using the term "soft reboot" for 2009, since they needed a way to distinguish it from a regular "reboot", which we now have to call "hard reboot".

DC-style alternate reality for me. It would keep the old BIONICLE canon, but not essential for new fans to know when they start investing in this new plot. It would also allow for the fresh start "hard reboot" fans want.

Yeah; if anything, I've seen a TON of people incorrectly assume that reboot means that the new BIONICLE would be retreading the same ground as the old line. That's a false mentality, and will never happen. A reboot is the correct terminology to use.

Oh, don't worry. I have a completely-real insider telling me the new plot will take place in the TTV Continuum, where the Elemental Masters Mesonak, Eljay and Friends must awaken the not-so Great Spirit MARDI GRAS!!! who was put into slumber by the evil Megablockuta.

If these appear in stores this year, it will be around the holiday season (roughly December 2014). At this point it would make sense in LEGO's typical marketing waves for them to appear at the next available time - holiday season wave. Plus, new LEGO at this time might help boost the interest to non-Bionicle fans. It's very common for new themes (or continuation of old themes) to appear in the December wave, compared to a March or August wave, in that more themes are typically introduced in December compared to other season waves.

Yup. A remake is not a reboot. Two completely different things.

I do hope we see Takanuva and the Inika, they're amongst my favourite characters. Maybe we'll see a pattern similar to the original Bionicle - one wave consisting mainly of good guys, followed by another of bad guys. Maybe we'll see a wave of 6 bad guys next, with a few heroes like Takanuva featured?

If there is a summer wave, yeah, this is what I'm hoping for. While I think the hero/villain divide started in 2008 worked really well (and ignoring 2009 which in which characters were mostly amoral), Hero Factory sort of went overboard with "this bad guy goes to this good guy", although it evened out eventually. It would be fun to see a wave of all villains, and then some large hero sets (like Takanuva!).

Official release is January, according to the official BIONICLE facebook page. So expect them right around Christmas to, what I'm going to assume, is the real street date of January 1st like most holiday season official launches for TLG.
