Since C-model contest began I was thinking about building something BIG but I wasn't sure if I finish it in time. So I've built this little pull-back trike to get "plan B" and then immediatelly began working on my second alternative model out of set 9394. I wanted to be the first who rebuilds this jet plane into boat but izorn was bit faster... :classic:

So my alternate is hovercraft. Its main feature is quite unique steering. It turns just pair of rudders instead of whole propeller as you can see among official hovercraft models.

This is list of all functions:

  • three wheels chassis
  • front axle drives propeller
  • rear axle "HOG" steering that also turns pair of rudders
  • opening windscreen
  • steering wheel and adjustable seat in cab

This is mechanism inside - green is steering and red is drive for propeller

41 left over parts

And there are few pictures from building process bellow:

I began with prototype of rear axle to check steering performance.

Then I built the most difficult part of model - crossing of drive and steering axles.

And this was first prototype of model.

Awesome! Looking good but are you going to conceal the front wheels?

Yes, I wanna hide them with remaining panels. There is still a lot of work to finish it.

A Hovercraft is a great idea. Look forward to the completed model. Good luck.

I'm happy that I can show you first pictures of finished model. I plan to take better pictures during weekend and aslo create video. So back to model of hovercraft.

It features this functions:

  • three wheel chassis
  • front axle drives propeller
  • rear axle "HOG" steering that also turns pair of rudders
  • opening windscreen
  • steering wheel and adjustable seat in cab

I've used more than 90% of set parts and got just 40 letf overs. It got cool aerodynamic shape and is much more sturdy than I expected.

This is the winner for me, though I am a bit biased towards Tomik's models.

One little thing: can you somehow change the color of the blades? It's really hard to see them.

Thank you for such a nice comment. I appreciate you like my models becuase you are another great builder.

About rotor blades - I can change color only partly so I think it wouldn't look much better. There is one beam 11L in black but all 5L beams are red...

Wow :) I did not buy the 9394 set in its time because I found the official B-model so disappointing (that propeller notably  ). If this MOC would have been the official alternate, I would have bought the set! Maybe I can still find one somewhere...

Congratulations for that very nice build

9394 may be the last set I would buy, but your C-model is pretty enlightening.

BTW, the sticker could make the appearance better, IMO.

Also for me! In addition, the mechanics are so smart!

I was thinking about it too. I might break my rule in avoiding use of stickers... :sweet:

I don't like official alternate either. It's boring to have two planes out of one set... By the way this is my second alternate from this set. First one was this shark. And if you are interested in buying this set I have two of them. It's funny I tried to sell one of them more then year without success so I've opened it and built this hovercraft.

Pity I can't use some of my older animals like this shark or dog, wasp, tyrannosaur and rabbit...
