[MOC] Monkeys and Pirate(s) (MOC, OPMOCs, etc)

Recommended Posts

Ahoy,

I wanted to get back to my beloved monkey-topic.

For starters, this is my MOC "Monkey and Pirate"

I hope this monkey statue is not too terrifying...

Then I have been gathering some information on the field which I would like to share with you, because some guys have done extraordinary work in the field of "Monkeys and Pirates".

I have included links when "Other People's MOCs" (OPMOCs) have been referred to (not posting them). [i hope that this is not violating the forum's etiquette.]

On Monkey-Driven-Design & Pirates

Ever since "6270 Forbidden Island" came out in 1989 monkeys have been a part of the Lego Pirates Theme (even more prominently in "6235 Buried Treasure" also in 1989).

They have fought for treasure, sailed the seven seas and wreaked havoc wherever possible in search of gold and bananas.

This inspired me to my approach of "monkey-driven design" (not to be confused with model-driven design) and I have tried to include monkeys in one way or another in all of my models.

But luckily, I am not alone in this. So I would like to take the opportunity to take a look around at who is building dioramas with monkeys in them.

One thing that caught my eye sometime back was this creation by Rod Gilles called "In The Temple of the Monkey God":

It's a bit sinister but excellent nevertheless.

(Rod is doing fantastic steam-punk things, really awesome)

This was my inspiration for my "The Temple of the Monkey God"

Just recently "TAKKATA" has presented a series of MOCs in this very forum, which had monkeys in them and which were fantastic.

Unfortunately I have not seen more of TAKKATA.

"Monkey Run - Skara Kikos" by TAKKATA

"Temple Boom"

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98449

"The Falls of Skara Kikos"

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=97814

(Maybe I got the sequence wrong)

This film was also a perfect example of monkey-pirate interaction:

Escape from Sabre Island - A Brickfilm by dastolidigital

MESTARI's MOC also has its fair share of monkey inclusion:

"[MOC] Small soldiers' outpost" by MESTARI

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=94519

with a very classic feel to it.

"[MOC] Sabre Island" by vitreolum

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98100

has a small monkey on a raft (terrific MOC).

"PTC - Yatkuu/6Kyubi6 - The Shark Reef" by YATKUU

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=93211

Shark Reef was built carefully and cleverly and did not forget its monkey.

"Monkey Madness PTV-small" by LEGOKING

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=23407

featuring a monkey in a leading role. :pir-sweet:

"[M.O.C.] Monkey Island Minifigures" by LEGO_LEGIS_LEGERE

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=73556

monkey is a "must" in here.

"A Pirate Knitting" by PIXELDUDE

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=33956

is so funny. :pir_laugh2:

"Pirate Animal Costumes" by FALLENTOMATO

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=24727

is a fair attempts at a custom made monkey custume.

"PTC - Captain Nemo/MstrOfPppts" by MSTROFPPPTS

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=93209

features a monkey armed with a pistol.

But "Monkey Battle of Passage Fort" by COMMODORE HORNBRICKER

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=29751

features a horde of fiercly fighting primates. A lot of action in here.

"Battle for the Fountain of Youth" - by SIMON_S

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=98276

has a small monkey in a tree.

This was what I have found to far. Forgive me, the monkey-included MOC-list might not be complete.

Coming back to my contributions, I have created

"The Flying Monkey"

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=84523

"MOC: Palace Jaune Banane"

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=92916

and recently:

"MOC: HMS Royal Monkey"

http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=99608

and I hope to continue in that way.

My wish for the future is to see some more "Monkey & Pirate" creations here - so, brick on!

I found Walter's great contribution, so I need to link it here.
