Why should there be any association with any of those sets? Isn't it even better if there is none?

An alternative model of two sets with lots of orange panels, should use at least some of those panels (imho). Now you only recognize the rims. I like it better if you recognize more parts of the original set(s). But your opinion may vary of course.

Indeed it does look great!

But I know Doc, so I think there will be a Mk II

If you select two orange sets, I expect to see some orange

Nicely done! I'd like to do something with the same 2 sets but still haven't got any good idea... yours has been a nice surprise :)
