C-MODEL CONTEST ENTRY TOPIC

This is the entry topic for the Technic C-Model Contest.

DESCRIPTION

Build an alternate LEGO Model out of one or two existing LEGO Technic sets. The total part count for the set(s) you use can't exceed 600, so you can either use a single set containing 600 parts or less or use two (different) sets with a combined part count of 600 or less. You can't use 600 parts of a 1200 part set. Since 2005 is the year I came out of my dark ages, I am also imposing a release date limit. The set(s) need to be released in the year 2005 or later.

DEADLINE

Deadline date is November 30th, 2014. Contest will be closed on Monday the 1st, so you will have the entire Sunday to build.

1. Mars Rover

Hello everyone!

This is my TC5 contest entry. It is a planetary exploration rover (something like the NASA Curiosity Rover). It is built from set 8264 Hauler.

This set was released in 2009 and counts 574 parts, including a Power Functions M motor, and a linear actuator.

Model name: Mars Rover

Features:

- articulated rocker-boogie system like in the real rover, for the 4 rear wheels

- arm turntable can be rotated by a crank accessible below the vehicle (hand of devil?)

- arm lifted by Power Functions^TM-

- power switch easily accessible from a lever on the rear

- solar panel inclination controlled by a pot hidden in the chassis

- other movable parts: claws, antenna, camera

2. Sidecar Motorcycle

Hello everyone,

Here is my TC5 contest entry based on parts from set 9392 and set 42001: Original thread.

4. Eagle 9394-LK Helicopter

G'day everyone. This is my TC5 contest entry. It only uses the Technic set 9394 Jet Plane. The discussion thread for this.

I call it the EAGLE 9394-LK HELICOPTER

Functions:

• Free Rotating rotor blades.
  
• Removable swivel undercarriage gun.
  
• Removable rocket/missile wing store pylons.
  
• Retractable front main wheels.
  
• Retractable handle for one handed use to lever to spin main rotor blades

6. The Dawnbreaker

This is an alternative model built from sets 9392 Quad Bike and 42026 Black Champion Racer.

Features:

- independent front axle suspension,

- dragged rear axle suspension,

- RWD by a pull-back motor,

- chain driven single cylinder fake engine,

- automatic return-to-centre steering provided by a super positive caster angle (steering is done by the steering wheel in the cab),

- manualy adjustable rear wing,

- only stickers from 42026 used.

There are 54 pieces remaining out of 343 available (including spare parts).

9. Wheeled Excavator

Discussion thread

For the [TC5] challenge I'm using 8071 Bucket truck

And this is my model

Functions:

1. Working Steering via the gear on the back
   
2. Front grader can be raised up or down
   
3. Feet on the back side can be lowered, and raised
   
4. Rotation of the upper structure via the gear on the side
   
5. Boom can be raised and lowered
   
6. Bucket is fully operational too
   

Here you can see that functions are controlled by yellow gears on the right side of the excavator.

The brown gear at the back controls steering.

Front grader and rear feet are controlled manually.

ORIGINAL SET: 8420 Street Bike

FUNCTIONS:

• Steering (with a HUGE turning radius!).
  
• Suspension in the mid-section of the bike.
  
• Animated boxer-4 motor connected to rear wheel via chains.
  
• Opening panels to view suspension and motor.
  
• Kickstand on right side at rear.
  
• Windshield, can be pivoted a little.
  
• Separate stand that's sturdier than the little kickstand.

15. Snow Groomer

Snow groomer

made with the 8047 "Compact Excavator" from 2009:

There are three functions:

1. Lift of blade (left exhaust pipe, worm gear, 24t crown, lift arms)
   
2. Lift of tiller (right exhaust pipe, worm gear, 8t, lift arm)
   
3. Working tiller, driven by the caterpillars (12t-12t, 2 times).
   

In addition, the blade is manually steerable (pin with friction).

17. Daydream

Hello everyone,

my C-model for the contest was made out of a Quad Bike (9392) and a Black Champion Racer (42026) parts.

I called it "Daydream"

Functions:

- Suspension: Independent front, dragged rear axle

- Steering: Working steering wheel

- Pull back motor (RWD) with a locking mechanism

- Openable scissor doors

- Extendable/retractable front part of the car

- Adjustable rear wings

Dimensions: Length: 22-24cm/ Width: 15cm/ Height: 9cm.

329 pieces used out of 343 (spare parts included).

Weight: 332g.

20. Log Loader

Here's my entry for the contest, built using parts only from 8049. You can find the original entry thread here.

Features:

• Pneumatically lifted two-stage claw crane
  
• Worm screw operate claw
  
• Crane can be rotated via the light on the cabin roof
  
• Two-stage steering, with both articulated and rack-and-pinion steering - by turning the exhaust stack, the rear body articulates, while at the same time the rack-and-pinion on the central axle also turns, resulting in 3 different angles on each axle
  
• Pendular suspension on the rear axle

21. The Rare Red Grader

Here is my entry for the [TC5] competition (based on the 8261 and 8048):

The rare red grader

It features:

- Steering : HoG + steering in the cab

- Pendular suspension on the front axle

- Pendular suspension on the rear axle

- Grader blade with the following articulation possibilities:

- up/down (operated by pushing the rod forward or backward. It has a spring loaded knee-jack mechanism to keep it either up or down)

- tilt around the vertical axis (operated by turning the wheel on the rod)

- tilt around the horizontal axis (to make it follow the ground. Not a real life feature, but great for playability)

- Ripper at the back (also with a spring loaded knee jack mechanism to keep it either up or down)

- 2 cilinder fake engine driven by one of the wheels (not enough gears in the set to connect all wheels, but it is an easy mod )

22. Pickup Truck with Dump Cargo Bed

Hello everyone,

this is my TC5 contest entry. It's a pickup truck with dump cargo bed. It is an alternative model for 9393 set.

Model name: Pickup truck with dump cargo bed

Features:

• HOG + steering wheel (working simultaneously)
  
• opening doors (simple "lock" - half of the axle 4 fits in the door case - a small force has to be applied)
  
• opening hood (simple "lock" - beam 2x4 is locked by cross block 1x3 - a small force has to be applied)
  
• opening cargo bed
  
• soft chassis to simulate independent suspension
  
• 2nd HOG for dumping cargo bed and/or rotating axle for attachable accessories (disable dumping by shifting gear 8 aside from the worm gear)
  
• large attachable winch
  
• special "parking feature" for overcrowded cities :-)
