And I need to find out whether you are allowed to take detailed pictures, that it's tolerated or that it's frowned upon.

If they allow detailed pictures you might as well ask to take the sets to your hotel room for a night (who's looking at them at 2AM?). You could become the ultimate early reviewer.

Or I can bring a chair and a laptop

My GF is interested in joining me, so I think wewill do the weekend. It's definitely a cool fair, not only for LEGO, but toys and games in general.

One advantage of going a bit later is that you guys can compose a list with questions

When making a decision like this I always like to think about the alternatives. If you don't go and save yourself the vacation days/costs, what are you going to do with them? I faced a similar situation last year and decided against taking a vacation (since it was early in the year as well) and then ended up spending vacation to "just" relax at home doing pretty much nothing. At that point I really regretted not using the resources for something more rewarding.

Very true. Actually there's very little holding me back. I work every other Friday, so I arrange the day off for that Friday. And the rest is quality time with the misses :wink:

I'd say go, and keep this open in either Technic 2017 or a new thread so that we can ask questions. It could be great if we have someone on the ground who knows about Technic. Also, if they are there, you might want to stop at the Conrad, WSI, and NZG stands. Those guys make really cool 1:50 scale construction models, and that might be something of interest.

It is your duty to go.  For all the people who would love to go but can't, it would be cruel to know that you could have gone but didn't.  Be our eyes and ears so we can live vicariously through you.

Don't forget to check out the Pocher models!

Isn't it the moderator's duty to attend the toy fair and at least one Eurobricks event?

Have fun and report back anything interesting.  :classic:

Check...on both accounts. Have been to a Eurobricks event twice. It's good fun. Although the one in Billund is a bit more interesting "buying LEGO"-wise.

I'd love to go being only two hours away but unfortunately I'm not a registered trade professional, so I count on you Jim!

Hi there,

i will leave tomorrow this cold weather here and go to a much warmer place or a few weeks. However, I felt a little bit guilty, leaving my Lego collection home ... so I took my mostly white builded Mods and Mocs together, had a view ... and took a last photo.

Please excuse the bad quality.

How did you make the white Porsche? Did you use non-lego pieces, or did you colour them yourself?

So, recently I got new rechargeable batteries - Ni-Zn 1'6V 2500mWh ones . Unfortunately , I was disgusted finding out that my 8881 battery box won't work with them. Quickly discovering that those batteries do work in an old rc train base (part 55455c01 ) I tested the 8881 with alkaline 1'5V batteries - it did work.

My question is , do I have to overcome ( solder a wire over it) this element in the circuit board ( marked with the arrow ) to be able to use these 1'6 batteries ?

I have no idea where i saw it, but it was on my mobile phone and i wanted to take a screen shot so i could have a good look some other time, but there's no screenshot (...) and i cant find it anywhere!

It was a shot from the front/left side and the hood was open, and it had the new claas tires. searching now for the second day but no succes so far, any of you know what moc im looking for??

quick question, how do people feel about modifying parts?

I want to build a proper boxer engine, as in pistons going in and out at the same time. Now i think i would be able to do that by of-setting the two cilinders by half a beam's width, and cutting half a beam's width of two of the small crank end parts (and perhaps cutting a tiny bit of two con-rods).

For context, i feel like a boxer engine is a better fit for 42057, but i would prefer a true boxer over a flat V

I personally dislike modifying parts. Why not construct the part yourself? Another problem is the clearence for the conrod, how thick are thy? 1.5l? oder 2l?

Basicly when you modify a part you somewhat destroy it/limit its usage. Although it's a given it is a fairly specialised part....

conrods are 0.75 of a beams width, and yeah, modding those would indeed make em weaker.

Im not a big fan of the idea either, im just a tad disappointed with lego for only allowing V and inline engine configs, and only those with flat plane cranks, id very much like a proper boxer engine.

How about self constructed parts? IIRC sariel has knowledge about this topic in the current edition of the builders guide.

I have the idea of custom cam lobes for an engine but I don't want to cut crankshaft parts.....

Not a bad idea, but i dont have a 3d printer available (dont know anyone who has one), ordering a few of those crank pieces and conrods off bricklink would be far more cost effective..

Im not entirely sure of my own stance on the matter to be honest, i keep all my models pure lego, but it just feels annoying that the engine components have been unchanged for over two decades and are so limited in terms of realism/options. Lego themselves even dont bother to for instance get inline 4 engines correct (as seen in 42037, the correct crank would be up-down-down-up, not up-down-up-down for a normal I4)

You could think about services like shapeways. You construct your piece and let it print. Maybe an electronic store in your region provides you with te possibility to print your parts. (It's just a rough idea). Maybe efferman can help us with this topic

Edit: additional info

I just asked efferman, since his custom parts topic appeared at the top of the forums just now.

One could also make custom crank-steps (1/4 rotation, 1/3 rotation) to make a cross plane crank V8, or a properly balanced I3/V6 engine, or crank parts for I4/V8 with proper conrod-locators.

Lego themselves probably dont care enough about realistic engine configurations, but i feel like it would be a welcome modernisation to current technic to at least have a bit more variation over the regular flat plane V engine (even slightly surprised they didnt do something like this for the porsche)

Maybe it is not so much caring but knowledge. And for the Porsche it might be vetoed out bei Porsche. Think about the 4 wheel steering....

On the other end who knows much about engines and stuff? Enthousiasts and mechanics...... maybe the problem was lying there....
