There were actually two of them, Westworld and Futureworld. Worth watching to see where the TV series came from.

I’d forgotten about Futureworld. Thanks for reminding us about that one.

Logan's run is another one, and there're plenty more :)

Excellent movie, (never seen the TV series), and in a similar vein Rollarball

I think it would be an excellent model for a MOC. Maybe one day ...

It's already became. Still needs some improvements and it will born a new separate topic.

Logan's Run TV series was ok for a 70s show.   If you remember Logan's Run, you must over 30 years-old.  I don't think that was allowed.  :classic:

Logun's Run, Westworld, Omega Man, original Lost in Space TV show, original Planet of the Apes movies, and of course, Babylon 5 - all classics for their time.

Lately though, I've been watching live cams on YouTube  - Yellowstone Park Old Faithful cam, Brooks Falls - Katmai National Park (the salmon are running and the bears are hungry), Kilueua volcano (Rusty lives!), etc.

Ok, I think you may have the prize with the live cams. Although not vintage or classic TV, they do seem to be a guilty pleasure ?

Babylon 5 was one of my favourite shows btw ?

Several people on the “quirks” thread have asked are kids today dumber than they were in past generations.  I don’t think kids today are inclined to be less smart, I just believe they are just quick to judge, quick to label, and quick to hate things with a swipe of a touchscreen.  We have had a thread discussing the increasing use of color by TLG in Technic models and the discussions on the reasons for it as ease of identification and easy for determining orientation, all of it based on ensuring the child has as much of a chance of completing the model successfully as possible.  That is TLG’s main goal here. This is not to address the fact that children are getting dumber, but to address the fact that the child has way more choices today on how to fill their free time. When I was young, my attention was divided between my toys, playing outdoors, my friends, 3 channels of programming to choose from on the tele, maybe listen to music either on the radio or play some vinyl records, or draw or color... sneaking a peak at your Dad’s  Playboys... a fair amount of things to choose from, more than my father had to choose from.  Now take a child today... what competes for their time today? All of what I had plus the infinitely deep internet, cable tv’s 100+ channels, streaming services like Hulu, Netflix, plus all the premium packages and streaming services. Unlimited porn, downloadable music, videos, YouTube...

So TLG has had to do some things to make Lego more appealing and more successful as a Toy brand. This means media tie ins , Lego movies, more things to grab the attention of the child, and also they have had to embrace ANYTHING that gives them any kind of advantage.  Completion of the model, for our Theme, and completing It correctly so all functions work as described and/or displayed on the box is the ultimate goal and the reason behind the “Disney-esque” color palette.

So are kids today dumber? No, they are just as dumb as we were 50 years ago, but they move on to the next thing faster than you can swipe right.

Hi Everyone! Long time no see. I have been broadening my horizons recently and have come to enjoy a variety of other hobbies, which makes me wonder what everyone else does besides Lego. I have personally started photography and videograpahy, and have started a little Skyrim YT Channel (blatant self promotion  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRTYs9V_OquBAwCusq7TAHQ?) What are the rest of you interested in? I have heard that RC cars are another common hobby, though I would love to know the extent of the Technic communities varied interests.

I love to do some mountain biking, gardening (sometimes I build LEGO outside in the shade) and reading history books, besides playing PC games (mostly Civilization and Football Manager)

There is a RC park nearby where I live, so I try to make the most of it.

Lego has taken a bit of a back seat for me. I've only just got back into MOCing after a mini dark age. During the summer I've been out with my rc car and painting new body shells for it (ftx bugsta).

I also collect vinyl and do a bit of DJing.

Hey I’ve not been in the pub before so hello!

A Few comments, I started watching westworld last month. Thought it was pretty good (only seen 5 episodes) so a little disappointed to read here that it was kind of a re hash of a 1973 movie.

I started watching star trek next Generation too but only got a few episodes in to it. It’s so…bad. Not to put you off I hope, its still good late night viewing, but those 80's special effects!...but as you say, slower paced, relaxed. I remember it being much better when it first came out but that was probably because there was not much choice of watching things with 3 tv channels and the video store was a bit expensive to be regular of course and we needed that sci-fi fix. Just started Ozark. Seems good so far but a little painful to watch. No, like a lot of you it seems, I don’t watch TV either but just a couple hours Netflix per week. Too many great things to do these days other than sit watching the screen for hours a day.

Sounds like a lot of people are in to RC cars. Myself over the last 17 years decided to waste money on building and modifying a real car. Datsun 510.

Spoiler

file.php?id=30926&mode=view

That’s probably why I am into technic right now because I need my mechanical engineering fix which is a fair bit cheaper with Lego.  And to be honest I am over cars and may be selling the Datsun soon. Be sad to see it go though.

Also I went pretty hard on traditional animation for 13 years, with a couple short films (they take years to finish doing it by yourself) but with a young family there is not time to spend doing hobbies like this, so animation is put aside for some time now. If you have kids you may know what I mean when you have so little time for your own hobbies I feel like I need more instant gratification in what I am doing so a hobby that is years long won’t cut it.

Bread making! Ive been trying to perfect the Roti. Six attempts, its getting better.

Ah OK I don’t usually talk that much and must get back to work but good that it feels very casual in here. I may be back.:classic:
