Dapper-D2 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) I present my 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Slant Nose. I went for form over function on this build. It has opening doors and engine compartment. I followed a blue print for this model that I blew up to 155% on the copier at work. It translated to 14 studs wide by 36 studs long. I pride myself on making sturdy models (no large pieces held on by 1 stud here) and this one is no exception to my standards. I am very happy with how the Mixel ball joints worked out on the window framing, as they are fairly new pieces and I haven’t seen it done before. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! BusterHaus Posted September 14, 2014 Models like yours make this MT contest very enjoyable. The ball connectors are a great choice. The only thing I can see that could be changed or improved is the height of the seats or the size of the steering wheel - the gap between the two is a bit tight. rollermonkey Posted September 14, 2014 lol at the BTTF future license plate. :) Should have used the OUTATIME plate.
Jeroen Ottens Posted September 14, 2014 Nice model. Good use of the mixel pieces. The only thing I don't really like is the rear window. There is no natural flow from the roof to the rear.
Zerobricks Posted September 14, 2014 Awesome job! Those mixel joints sure rule!
grum64 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) Really nice model This is looking to be a great competition ...Those mixel joints sure rule! Thanks Zblj. I was wondering where I'd seen those joints. Day spent scratching head averted! Edited September 14, 2014 by grum64
rhplus Posted September 14, 2014 Very nice work! I like the color scheme, mixel parts and the most I like the front hood. But I think you could put more attention to rear window and make typical porsche silhouette.
swisstechnic Posted September 14, 2014 Awesome job! Those mixel joints sure rule! I didn't even know about this piece, very interesting. And for shure a very nice detailed car!

I think you could put more attention to rear window and make typical porsche silhouette. Yes, I agree with you guys here. It was the one limitation I had with using the ball joints on the rear window, but I decided to stick with it anyway because I did not want to lose the integrity of the structure in that location and felt like the next alternative would have been to have one end of the rear frame unattached and basically floating. I thought the benefit of the ball joints out weighed this imperfection, as far as the overall shaping of the rear and rear side windows. I will eventually try and fix this though (maybe making the car a more traditional Porsche and removing the slant nose), as I never feel like my models are completely done. Thanks for the feedback. Forgot to include the side profile view. Thanks for your input and I agree. I will tweak that area as well, but there is always some give and take with Lego. Thanks for all the kind words guys! I'm glad you all approve! Lakop Posted September 15, 2014 Love the side view. It does look like a sporty classic car. Great work. H
Bzroom Posted September 15, 2014 Is there anyway you can round off the front of the roof?
Dapper-D2 Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) I have tweaked the rear window area by replacing the 1x2 technic axle with a 1x3 technic axle and two spacers and moving the 1x2 ball joints towards the rear by 1 stud length. It's not perfect, but slightly better. What do you guys think? Before After With other models Edited September 20, 2014 by Dapper-D2
