Hi Guys

I have a holiday video (full HD) that I've edited for a friend but even after getting it down from 5.7hrs to 2.2hrs it's still a very big file (15GB). What's the best way to burn it to DVD without too much loss of quality?

Burning onto a DL DVD isn't an option as the person I've done it for doesn't have a DVD player that can play them. I'd rather not split the movie over several discs if at all possible.

I'm using a MacBook Pro running OS X.

Any help or advice would be very gratefully accepted.

Thank you.

I've got an old version of Aimersoft Video Convertor that you can tweak for file size and I use it to shrink HD animations before sending them to clients... does a great job.

I've also used Handbrake to shrink files down.

Mac The Ripper used to be the go-to application for shrinking DVDs down to fit onto standard 4.4GB discs so maybe take a look at that. If you have trouble getting it I'll see if I've still got a copy to send you.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my request for help. I've recently bought the MacBook Pro and am still finding my way round after years of being a Windows user.

I'm going to go through the video one last time to in the hope that there's a little more 'trimming' I can do to get the file size down. I'll then try the software you've suggested and hopefully one of them will do the job. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again.

You can just use iMovie (or iDVD if you have it) and export to DVD. I'll automatically adjust the size and bitrate to make it fit. That's the best option if you want to fit it on one disc, playable on standard DVD players. The specifics depend on the version you're using, but here's a reasonable run-down with and without iDVD:

Great stuff! :thumbup:

Thank you very much :sweet:

I always forget about the standard Apple apps for these things! :)

I'll try iMovie10 first as it's the software I'm using to edit the footage. Should I encounter any problems I'll give the software you kindly suggested a go.

Thanks again :sweet::thumbup:
