I've got the following

  • a 35Amp brushed speed controller w/ BEC
  • a 2.4 gHz radio and receiver

I want to connect the PF Servo into the 2.4 ghz receiver, but don't know how. Is this possible?

I have been searching with Google and have read lots of peoples posts about making custom systems, but nothing on this specific topic has turned up.

I know several members here have managed something similar.

Any advice or references would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know you need to match the PWM frequency of the PF system, because the servo motor turns the PWM frequency / duty cycle into the relative position.

There are dedicated ICs which output PWM signals, or you can use an H bridge chip etc.

One of the obvious issues I ran into when researching this is that RC systems run on a three wire setup Power, Ground, and Signal.

Whereas; the PF servo runs on a four wire setup Power, Ground, Control1, and Control2.

Z3_2drive has a motor controller board that does this, but it also functions as the speed controller and costs a little too much. I need less functionality and a lower price.

Does the PF servo operate at something other than the 1000 to 2000 pwm with 1500 being center position?

After some more research, I may have found my issue. The ESC that I have is for an aircraft and is therefore unidirectional. My RC Lego creation would not have reverse.

Taking this element out of the equation would mean that needed two brushed bidirectional speed controllers instead of just one. Those motor control boards from Pololu are beginning to look more enticing.
