Starwars4J Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) Holy hell that's awesome. Great find, athos! I can't see too well, are those the flared helms for the pawns? Also, who are the bishops? I can see a viking torso but... And BLACK skellies for the pawns on the other side? I would've thought the'd be rarer... Damn, I don't have any cash to spare...maybe i'll just wait and hope they go on sale like the vikings :-/ Edited June 19, 2007 by Starwars4J Quote
Corvus Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Holy hell that's awesome. How does that work? *wacko* X-D I'm glad they got this out, great for parts pack. I only wish they had a proper knight with the, er, pointy *wacko* helmet? Forgot what it's called. Something german... :-/ Well, this knight's helmet. Now, all we need is a SW chess... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted June 19, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) I'm considering to buy one of these. Can someone tell me what exactly is glued in these chess-set minfigs? I guess this info is somewhere in the discussions-threads of the other chess sets, but maybe someone knows this by heart. Izzy Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Holy Moley! Holy Cow! Holy S**T! Holy Hole! :-P I love chess and that set is divine. Comes close to my favourite Harry Potter and Simpsons ones. (not lego) Quote

iamded Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Excellent! I thought they'd use a skellie with long hair and 'dress' for the queen. Although the fact they used the wizard... I mean why not the Wizard and a Wizardess? Or a Skellie King and Queen? 'Cause, like, necrophilia is wrong. Anyway, I was not expecting black skellies for pawns... maybe they'll actually be white. After all, in the first S@H pics for Crossbow Attack they used a black horse, and we all know the set has a white horse. 1 problem... I bet these are glued like the Viking set too. *n* I really don't see why, I'm sure more people would buy it if no glue at all was used. I know I would. Oh well, so far over-all, looks good! Quote
Shakar Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) The queens are absurd. The Crown Knights Queen and the Princess are the same person! And the Dark Wizard's wife is an undead. The Kings are perverts. Still, I'm happy with the minifigs selection. For once the Bishops actually look like bishops (and cool looking ones, too) and not like heavily armoured knights. All the pawns have shileds, yay! This set includes the two biggest reasons I have to get Skeleton Tower: the Dark Wizard and the beautiful Princess. In this case, I can save (for now) 50 Euro and buy the Tower later. I love you, Lego. Shakar Edited June 19, 2007 by Shakar Quote
Siegfried Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I really don't see why, I'm sure more people would buy it if no glue at all was used. I think I know why they do it though; I have the Knights Kingdom chess set and I find the Queens will break almost every move due to 4 studs bottom, 2 studs middle. I have seriously considered gluing a few of my own. (Yes, I bought mine as a chess set!) On the other hand, if you have no intention of ever using as a actual chess set I can understand your annoyance; but is it really that good a deal for just the men at full price? What would you do with the board? (That is glued even on mine.) Quote
gylman Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Totally agree with above... some of the pieces in thse sets are not usable as an actual chest set if not glued together, or they fall apart when you try to move then. We actually use these as chess sets at home, and they are kinda a pain sometimes because the pieces fall apart. My father can't actually use them because his large clumsy fingers keep knocking over the pieces beside the one he was trying to move (sorry dad). As minifig packs, of course no need for glue, but if they are actually meant for chess, I think they should use a slightly larger board, and only two studs in the middle to hold each pieces. We built our own board, and using a 6x6 size for each square (instead of Lego's 4x4), with slightly elevated jumper plates in the middle of each square and the rest studless, made for a FAR more enjoyable chess playing experience all around. xwingyoda Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 Nice find !! And to all of you who did not believe me when I reported the news on June 6 here... *yoda* Quote
natelite Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 That sucks. Would be better if the knights were actually knights. Oh well, no big deal since you can get both knights with the final joust set. I can't actually see the pics very well. Does anyone have bigger pics of the set? Quote
Shakar Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 (edited) Just noticed something. The URL of the pic with the box opened: -http://cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/852001-0000-xx-13-1.jpg- The URL of the box pic: -http://cache.lego.com/images/shop/prod/852001-0000-xx-33-1.jpg- Weird, isn't it? Look at the numbers I enlightened in blue. The pic with the 2 is missing (try to change the URL replacing the number with the 2- you're not going to find it). Peraphs they still haven't that pic up and they're going to add it soon? I was surprised to see how this time there were only 2 pics of the Chess set, while on the KK there were 5 and one the Viking one 3. Shakar EDIT: This folder has englarged pics. They can be helpful for noticing some details. 1 2 Edited June 19, 2007 by Shakar Quote

iamded Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I love the way the Skellie bishops are like the Grim Reaper. They have capes, hoods and scythes. :-D And the human ones are like... bishops. :-P Like monks. Awesome. I agree the rooks should be glued, for chess playing, but the shield and saber handles don't need to be glued to it. And I hope the pawns aren't glued in any way. Although it costs $100.00 NZ. I'll only be able to get it if I get that job. Also, is it exclusive to S@H? Shipping to New Zealand certainly rips a hole in the budget. That's why I don't use it. Quote

And I hope the pawns aren't glued in any way. I agree. Gluing almost the whole thing is excessive. Providing the bottom doesn't come off it doesn't matter. While I bought my mainly as a chess set, I also wanted the ability to have extra men for temperary reasons, such as taking a photo. I am also considing swapping a few heads. If every figure is glued it makes it less flexible. Also, is it exclusive to S@H? Shipping to New Zealand certainly rips a hole in the budget. That's why I don't use it. It will be exclusive to S@H and Lego stores. I have never seen one anywhere else, but the Death Star is supposed to be exclusive and I have seen that in two stores in my area. I have the same problem with S@H shipping. What I do is wait until a sale so the postage is covered. Quote
iamded Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Aw crud. There is no Lego store in New Zealand. :-( Quote
Shakar Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 The set is avialable on S@H since a few days. So, did anyboy order it? Shakar Quote
