I am new to LDD, so please forgive me if this is obvious. I've done a search but couldn't find the answer.

I have placed a tile on the board and now I'm trying to place a second tile that is upside down on top of it, but it doesn't seem to be possible. Has anyone achieved this or know how to?

To be able place a tile upside down over a other, you need a connection. You can use a temporary build like on this picture. You just rotate the tile and clips it. Temporary builds and knowing the parts sizes is very useful for designing MOCs on LDD specially for advanced techniques.

Have fun !

Adding to samirs method, you can also use the "scaffolding" method. In the example below you simply multi-select the yellow tile and the blue clip (ctrl-click) and the slide the blue clip on the bar. In the last position showed how to rotate it in a simple way.
