BalrogJ Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Hello everyone! Inspired by my wife's collection of LEGO Landmarks, I decided to start fooling around on the LDD with some of MY favorite landmarks. Since I already have the beautiful official set Tower of Orthanc, I decided to tackle Barad-Dûr and Minas Morgul, the other famous towers of LOTR. But I decided to try and do them in the same scale and the same spirit as the Landmarks sets. Here's the result of my attempts, rendered until I can get the actual bricks. And here are some other angles, snapshotted straight from LDD because rendering takes way too long! Minas Morgul was mostly inspired by this design. I was initially going to use sand green bricks but realized the tower is meant to be white, and the green is actually a tint coming from the foul moats around the dead city and from the corruption inside. The small bat is more for fun than anything, it's supposed to be the fellbeast of the Witch-King of Angmar! And Barad-Dûr.. The translucent red minifig head at the top will obviously be replaced with the official "Eye of Sauron" brick available in a couple of sets. I've ordered the bricks to make Barad-Dûr and will post more pictures once that's done. The bricks for Minas Morgul will have to wait a little, it gets expensive to order tons of bricks to create all those MOC's once you've got the inspiration and motivation to start you can't seem to ever stop. That's all for now! Edited September 6, 2014 by BalrogJ Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Pretty cool- you don't see enough Minas Morgul, but I think it's a really cool thing, white, but evil, not a common combination! Quote
Agent Fusion Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Awesome, although I personally would've used white glow. Quote
BalrogJ Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Awesome, although I personally would've used white glow. That's a good idea. Since it's still in the concept phase and only in LDD, I'll make sure to pick up white glow bricks instead of regular white, at least for the bottom of the ramparts. TheLegoDr Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Nicely done. You should also make a smaller Orthanc in the same scale then. The full scale is fun. I've considered doing this as well (although I always forget about Minas Morgul). But I thought about either doing this in micro/midi scale for the Two Towers OR doing a full scale Barad Dur in the same vein as Orthanc...cheaper for smaller, but it might be cool for a LEGO show with the two towers across the table. TheRedViper Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Very nice representations of these towers Quote
BalrogJ Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Hello again everyone. I've received the bricks to create Barad-Dûr and jumped right onto it. Here's the result : And a comparison with another set from the Architecture Landmarks series since that's what I was aiming for.. I think the United Nations aren't too happy about the neighborhood now. Quote
