Box Van

I see vans on the road every day, but very few in Technic. The humble van is overshadowed by it's big brother, the truck, so builders don't usually see the van as something to build. It is easier to build than a truck, and much more piece efficient. This is a Box Van, a van that has a separate container on the back instead of the container being part of the van itself.

My model is made primarily from Unimog pieces, including 3 M-motors and PF lights. I wanted it to have all the functions that a real van has, but have all the functions able to be turned off easily, so I made the V4 fake engine disconnected from the drive motor, meaning less efficiency, but more functionality and ease of use. The headlights are hidden in the radiator "grille", and all the other PF equipment is either in the box or under the vehicle.

This model is more robust than other models that I have made, but it also very simple.

I tried to replicate the small amount of suspension on vans like this, but in this scale, it is hard to include suspension, because I couldn't fit shock absorbers or anything that would spring back down into the small space.

I wanted it to look really good, so I included a fake gearstick and a fake steering wheel, all at the same scale as the model.

Fold-down wing mirrors and openable doors are also features.

It is a fun little thing to make, and it drives reasonably fast on flat ground. It is a road vehicle anyway.

Sounds like there's a lot crammed into something that size, I look forward to seeing the 'stripped down' pics.

I was thinkiing the same thing. Technic vans have never appeared. A good removal truck, like the winged truck, is great. I wonder if it's to do with the gaps in technic, maybe a van was not viable. But now we have panels.

The top image is of the chassis (which felt extremely small without the case) and the aesthetic casing in the background.

It comes off in 3 pieces, and it is easy to reassemble. The fake engine is connected to a motor on the chassis, so it will still run. Even though it looks like part of the casing, it is part of the main chassis, just it has more connection points in the case, so I took it off that way.
