davidmull Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I'm running trains a few months now and really sick of buying aaa,s. The trains are hard on battery's. Iv just ordered 2 8878s :) Quote
cgarison Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 In America, for the price of 2 8878's, you can purchase 12 AAA eneloop batteries plus a wonderful Maha charger that has settings to fast charge, trickle charge and condition those batteries for a very long life. Throw in 6 more Eneloop AAA batteries and you will never have to stop your train to wait for batteries to charge again. My ghost train/space train at Philly BrickFest never stopped running during show hours except for the time it took to swap battery packs. Plus, the triple A batteries are a great size to power your other devices like flashlights and TV remotes so the investment in the hardware will save money down the road. Win/Win/Win. Quote
legobear Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 (edited) Go Eneloops for sure! If anything were to happen to those batteries, you simply replace them. I suggest La Crosse chargers b/c you can charge / discharge, recondition, and test each battery separately. Eneloops should be reconditioned every 20 uses or so in order to erase "memory". If you don't do this, and you recharge batteries before depleting them, the batteries will develop memory and act as though their half depleted charge is now the FULL charge since you always recharge when they are half depleted rather than completely depleted. This 1. kill the life of the battery 2. give you a weaker battery. Go with La Crosse or other high end chargers that reconditions automatically and run into charging mode for you. I love Lipo batteries as I am an avid flyer. However, after all my years I know you need to take serious precaution with them. I've made batteries that work like a charm and others that balloon to the point of catching fire so be careful. One wrong drop of a lipo can set a house on fire. Edited May 18, 2015 by legobear Quote
davidmull Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 I personably think 8878 is the best option. U don't need to remove from train to charge. Rechargeables nearly work out as much and more hassle. Quote
pirzyk Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 I use 8878 exclusively and added 2 charging stations w/i my Engine Train Shed. I just swap engines when I need to recharge. Quote
davidmull Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Just received 2 8878s great comfort now no more aaa,s. Quote
