Hi all

Today, three generations of the Kirk Kristiansen family laid the six foundation bricks for the LEGO House at the construction site in downtown Billund, Denmark. The event - which I was fortunate enough to attend as a representative for the Danish LEGO User Group, Byggepladen.dk, included speeches by LEGO House manager Søren Lund, LEGO CEO Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, architect Bjarke Ingels (BIG) as well as a very thought provoking and inspiring session with director Bo Stjerne Thomsen from LEGO Foundation. Bo engaged all attendees in a lot of fun activities with just six standard 2x4 bricks. I think the pictures (check links below) tell the story of everybody having a really good time.

Thank you to LEGO for inviting Byggepladen.dk. I'm really looking forward to follow LEGO House as it emerges. Also, I hope the AFOL Community will be part of the LEGO House story. Come on, 2016...

Cool! We saw all the construction fences around the building site in May during EB 2014 and are excited to see the finished building in two years.

LEGO needs a modern showplace in Billund (along with the many historical sites,) and this should be well received by LEGO fans.

Thanks for sharing this with EB!

Thanks Kalgreen... for those wonderful images!!! (Here is a repost of one of them.)

Here are 3 LEGO executives (back and far right)... the bearded architect Bjarke Ingels (middle)... and the LEGO Kristiansen/Christiansen family members.

The family members are (left to right)... Agnes Kirk Kristiansen, Camilla Kristiansen, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, Edith Kirk Christiansen, (architect), Sophie Kristiansen, Thomas Kristiansen.

It was nice seeing the 90 year old grand dame of LEGO... Edith Kirk Christiansen at this festivity! :sweet: She turned 90 on May 29th of this year.... and is the daughter-in-law of LEGO founder Ole Kirk Christiansen, and widow of Godtfred Kirk Christiansen.
