Dark Brick Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 As you can tell by the title this maybe new as it is new to me. I was at the LEGO store this past weekend and I looking around, as I looked toward the PAB wall, I noticed green tubs. Come to find out you can fill these suckers to your hearts content for the measly pittance of just $100US. According to what I read, the tub can hold as many as 12 large PAB cups. This is a nice upgrade for those of us who already buy 6 or more cups a time. Although I am not sure if you get to keep the tub. Oh and since this was at the Northbrook, IL(USA) store, I am unaware of it being elsewhere. I hope this adds to your fun. DB
Asuka Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Now that sounds really great...! Thanks for that info. *y*
dunamis Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I'm probably headed into the LEGO store in Glendale, CA this weekend. I'll check to see if they have anything like this.
Izzy Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 WOW!!!! That's awesome... when I was in L.A. I got a cup of blue peices to have around one of my ships (on display) for water... I can't remember exactly but I think it cost me about $12. The guys in the store were totally weirded out when 2 Aussie gals come into a Lego store in the US of A and start asking about pirate lego. We were in there for ages... we don't have anything like that is Australia.
Athos Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 They had it at either the store in Ontario CA or Glendale CA. I can't recall now which one it was at. I'd never seen it before then. And probably wouldn't have noticed it then, except someone (I'm guessing a train guy, I was in a hurry, so I didn't talk to him) was filling one up with green and brown. Personally, I'm not sure, given the rather poor selection at the PaBs, I'd be able to fill one. Sometimes its hard to fill a cup... Steve
Buckshot Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 I just got back from a vacation, and was lucky enough to visit both the Atlanta and the Orlando Lego stores--neither of which had the $100 tub I was hoping to get one at Orlando (advertised as the largest PAB in the world). Has the $100 tub gone away for good, or can it still be found in some areas?
Donut Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Has the $100 tub gone away for good, or can it still be found in some areas? I am not too sure, but it was available at the stores in Chicago during Brickworld.

Stash2Sixx Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 OK! Lemme put this rumor to sleep, and fast.... Green $100 tubs for the PAB (pick a brick) wall were available last year, 2007! This year, we no longer have the green tubs. They were available last year at Brickworld, but LEGO had a different item that they were using at Brickworld '08. And yes, this information is fact, and I know of it for sure because I work at a LEGO store in the Chicagoland area.

I'll be visiting you(r store) at the end of the month, and was looking forward to getting myself another green tub. Sigh. Rumor put to sleep...
Dadster Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Thanks for the heads-up as far as it being an old deal...stinks though. I was just about to call the closest Shop!
Norro Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 I was in a store a few months back in Chicago and they mentioned (when questioned under bright lights) that they had a few green tubs, but could only sell them with the managers say so (conveniently absent) but they seemed genuine enough when they said that if you called ahead they could (and had) supplied them. Any word on this? Which Lego store in Chicago do you work at? While we're on the subject, which has the best PAB? God Bless, Nathan

Palisades, NY - decent with the usual stuff, but not as good as... 3. Orlando, FL [Disney] - Far and away, the best!!
AFOL SF Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 As far as the green tub is concerned, does the Lego stores sell them separately and how much? If so, does it have a lid/cover to go with? Anyone out there had the chance (last year or this year) to purchase without filling it up with PAB? Thanks in advance for your input.
Steve Demlow Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The green tub available last year was a good deal pricewise, and a nice tub. The 'large box' available at one of the Lego stores during BrickWorld this year was neither. It was just a cardboard box, held about nine large cups worth of bricks, and so at $150 (IIRC) was actually more expensive volume-wise than just buying ten cups ($15 each). The only possible advantage I could see is if you took the time to stack bricks, since the box is rectangular and the cups aren't. Hopefully they lowered the price before springing this on the general public.
Eilif Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 The green tub available last year was a good deal pricewise, and a nice tub. The 'large box' available at one of the Lego stores during BrickWorld this year was neither. Right there with you. With the discount, I think it came to about 125 bucks, and it was probably a fair deal for folks who don't live near a LEGO store, but looking at it, I kind of felt like LEGO was trying to trick me. I went to the sale expecting to go nuts on PAB, but the price of the boxes, and the selection completely changed my mind. I bought one cup (probably should have gotten 2, but hindsight...) and instead went nuts on the half-off damaged box stuff.
Stash2Sixx Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Disney in Orlando does have a big wall, it may be the biggest...but there is a lot of repetition on their PAB wall. Out of the three Chicagoland stores, it's a tough call. Woodfield and Northbrook are pretty much on even par. It all comes down to what is available to order from the warehouse at the present time. I prefer the wall at Woodfield I also heard a lot of concern for the white Brickworld '08 box. Many people felt that it was not as good as the green '07 box. Call LEGO customer service and let them know. The company cannot read our minds so If you want something changed....we all have to make an effort to do so.
dunamis Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I've been to several LEGO stores around the country and the Orlando store has the best PaB. The Glendale store is pretty good too. The Anaheim store PaB is really small.
Eilif Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I've consistently found a better selection at Northbrook, but living in Chicago, I get to the Chicago and Woodfield stores much more often. However, the Chicago store seems to have more, and better, grab bags than either of the other stores. As to the box. Being that it was a one-time offering at a special event, I didn't feel it warranted an official complaint. However, I will be going back to Brickworld next summer so maybe, as you suggest, I should officially voice my preference for a box that is not both smaller and 50% more expensive than the original green bulk tubs. Truth is that even with the less than amazing selection, if they had had 100 dollar green tubs, I would probably have purchased one.
