Heavy2600 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 (edited) I've got two, but after a lego and model train show they look better longer. Do I need a third set before they are gone? Talk me off the cliff, Or yell jump! Edited August 10, 2014 by JopieK Quote
garethjellis Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Do it !, in fact the cars look even better at a better scaled length. So you will need another 2 or 3 for parts. Quote
Heavy2600 Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Can a moderator fix title typos? Sorry posted from a phone. I can't mod title. @Garethjellis I was afraid of that! Quote
Rail Co Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 They do look better longer it all depends if you are willing to pay for it and how it looks! If do happen to buy an extra or two and you are not wanting the extra end cars I would love to take one off your hands (Meaining buy it) Good Luck -RailCo Quote
legoman666 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I have 3. I sold the extra locomotive to a lug member. Quote
Redimus Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I have a fully articulated 4 coach/2 logo set, with no modification to length, and with other Lego trains it looks great, and has the major advantage of actually fitting in my passing loop and one of the sidings, meaning it doesn't make it impossible to operate the layout if it's on the track. In other words, you should only lengthen you're HE if you think it'll fit on your layout. Quote
dr_spock Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Depends on how much space you have to display and run it. How prototypical do you want to be? Then again it is fun telling others how to spend their money. Do it. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Now I'm really having second thoughts on only two. I saw LegoSjaak's at 6 cars awhile ago and it got me thinking... Now this has brought it up again; maybe 2 aren't enough. I was going to buy a bigger tv so I can see it from my bed, but I suppose my 20" will be fine Quote
ancestral Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 The "new" magnet on couplings are a bit weaker due to plastic shielding. Adding 2nd set with a total of 4 carriages cause decoupling on sharp corners or uphills. Especially if you are using flexible tracks. You should go for a reversed 2nd motor on the back-end locomotive, then you could add 3rd set for a total of 6 carriages. If you are going only for display, then no problem 3rd set sure will look good. Quote
Redimus Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 I've not had that problem, but for a multiple unit that's intended to stay coupled together, it wouldn't hurt to replace the stock magnet couplers with purpose built permanent coupling. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Two sets is the perfect solution! Quote

Sometimes just tapping the magnet enclosure causes the magnet to align correctly internally. You can also use a 1x2 plate to connect two couplers. Edited August 11, 2014 by dr_spock Quote
JasperL Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 The HE looks great in long configurations on large layouts. But mine is only one set and just an extra engine. I'm fine with that. I'd say don't let the train be longer than the longest straight on your layout. Quote
escortmad79 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I have one & still need to buy another one Quote
Heavy2600 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) A slightly passive aggressive PM to my earlier post. Quick google search would reveal "Talk me off the cliff" to be a Hyperbole! No surprise membership and participation in the train forum isn't higher with moderators of that caliber. What if I was a young kid trying to learn about Lego trains? That message would be really discouraging. That is not the way to share and enjoy your hobby. I will be simply reading here, and not contributing. Hi Heacy2600, remember you are in an adult forum, you might take that into consideration when posting things like you just did, I mean, I don't know what jumping from a cliff has to do a LEGO train. I fixed your title, typo's can occur and if I see typo's I always fix them, but right now I'm preparing for a LEGO show and so this message to you (that was in my eyes not really necessary) will make my train town less beautiful. So, moral of the story: next time, think first before you type something. Edited August 19, 2014 by Heavy2600 Quote
rogul Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 crickeys @heavy2600 i thought it was pretty clear what u posted :) on a happier note i just ordered 2 HE and it just shipped so looking forward to throwing them onto my 12V track ! Quote
BricksMcgee Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 I haven't had that problem. Sometimes just tapping the magnet enclosure causes the magnet to align correctly internally. snowvictim Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 4 sets are good. Then you keep the 2 aditional engines on a side track. Or just do what I did and put them up for BrickLink. :D Quote
