KuBrick Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Recently, I've begun creating Myst Island in LDD, starting with the library interior. It's been quite a headache, but I'm figuring it out. If anyone wants to mess around with the LXF, here it is. Note: I realize how LDD is getting highly addictive. Next time, I'll jot down a creative idea in a good spot once it comes to me but flesh it out only after I've taken care of my highest priorities. If I'm going to be more successful, I'll have to be more self-disciplined. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Since Myst is not an official license held by TLG, I'm moving this to History, where architecturally it should fit in. Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 It looks really nice, especially the floor and the pillars. Quote
KuBrick Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Today, I completed the library, with artistic license -- I added a weird design on the sides, between the pillars. In a way, it actually makes it feel more reminiscent of D'ni architecture as seen in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst. Wow! I'm feeling drained -- and just in time for my vacation days to be almost over! At 2,472 bricks, LDD sure is slowing down with this model, so I'm not too sure about cramming the entire island into one file. Is there a way I could get to fit more structures in a LEGO realm with more ease? Quote
Hive Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Sweet idea! I should really get the last version of Myst... Quote
KuBrick Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 I appreciate the comments so far, guys. Does anyone know of a program that can endure larger-scale models without slowing down and / or crashing? Thanks! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Myst! Nice to see something like this. I spent hours playing it. Good work, keep on! Quote
KuBrick Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 I'm experiencing mixed emotions. A part of me is having fun -- like Benny finally building his spaceship -- another part is incredulous that I'm doing this, and another part is wondering whether I should spend my time doing something else. KuBrick Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Glad to hear it. Honestly, I'm feeling the most proud of my model of the giant tree. For a while, I struggled with getting its base down just right, and then I came up with an idea to make its bricks more realistic. It's the kind of experience that helps me feel more self-confident. KuBrick Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Could get some more feedback / critiques? I appreciate what you people are saying so far; I was just hoping for a little more. *shrug* I am enjoying myself and feeling more confident in my abilities; maybe that's what really matters. Quote
KuBrick Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 I would greatly appreciate some assistance. For a model of the planetarium, I'm using a SNOT technique to create the illusion of roundness on the top and bottom of the building. The problem is that the top view looks like a lumpy circle, which looks odd. Could someone please help with my technique? Here is a good reference shot: Here is the LXF file. Thanks to all in advance. Quote
KuBrick Posted December 27, 2014 Author Posted December 27, 2014 Since the program was lagging hard after finishing just the library, I was forced to create models for the landmarks only, with the island itself missing. Nevertheless, is the finished slideshow showcasing my LEGO MOCs based on Myst Island. Here is my BrickShelf gallery for every LXF file. Enjoy! Quote
