Smitty500 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Hello everyone, I have here a MOC I have completed many months ago, but have been keeping it in hiding (I am not sure why?) I doubt anyone on here has came across it, so I thought I would share. Any who, I have seen many people stick a motor inside many walkers like this. Some are very good, while some are very bad... While I know mine may not be the best, I think it is pretty good, and was wondering what you guys think. Keep in mind, I have set limitations for myself on how to construct this. 1. It had to look exactly like LEGO's on the outside 2. I had to fit the motor and battery inside seamlessly 3. I had to use most of the pieces already in the set (meaning I couldn't use technic beams to construct a better frame.) With this in mind, the walker does move a little slow and lacks a little bit of power it would need to walk on rougher surfaces, but it's still a solid walker. I know this is not best one out there, but let me know what you guys think! And before anyone asks, No I do not have instructions nor anything to show you how I made this. (yet) Quote
VK-318 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I would recommend finding a way to replace the M-motor with an L-motor or XL-motor. The XL has more than enough power (I know, I have one and it is incredible how strong my Emerald Night locomotive is thanks to the XL-motor), and a small gear assembly will allow you to step up the speed of the movement without excessively compromising strength. I don't know how much room there is inside, but I think you might be able to at least substitute an L or XL for the M without any external changes. Overall, I think your main priority should be speed rather than strength. Doubling the speed of the walker would be about right, I think. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Nice seamless mod. Don't worry about the speed — it's entirely accurate to how fast AT-TEs in Battlefront II are when you need them to take a different command post. Quote
markus1984 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 WOW! You are e rally crazy people . Absolut incredible work on the mechanic! markus Quote
TheWolffe Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 That is so cool! Really brings this set alive. I would love to motorize my own AT-TE's Quote
-Horizon- Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 This is really awesome Smitty, it looks great and the walking function is great. Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 That's awesome and great video! I like the part where the AT-TE just pushes the one droid! Quote
AwesomeBantha Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Great job, Smitty! I wanted to MOD mine with a motor, but I have no power functions knowledge whatsoever and therefore am stuck! It's awesome that you included a video! Quote
Chills Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Excellent mod, and really cool video. I'm interested to see the innards and how you accomplished this. Quote
Only Sinner Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Wow, brilliant video, Smitty500. I was not really even interested in this set before, but now.. I might have to get one and try to replicate the walking action! Quote
Smitty500 Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 I would recommend finding a way to replace the M-motor with an L-motor or XL-motor. Overall, I think your main priority should be speed rather than strength. Doubling the speed of the walker would be about right, I think. I have an XL-motor, and yes that would be plenty of power, but unfortunately way too big to fit in without removing the giant slope walls. The L-motor may fit, but the m-motor is just snug as it is. I don't have one though, should look into it. Nice seamless mod. Don't worry about the speed — it's entirely accurate to how fast AT-TEs in Battlefront II are when you need them to take a different command post. Haha, this is totally true. I believe Wookieepedia is quoting to have said them to go about 60 k/h (37 M/H). I was hoping mine could match it... Great job, Smitty! I wanted to MOD mine with a motor, but I have no power functions knowledge whatsoever and therefore am stuck! It's awesome that you included a video! Thanks! I didn't have much power function knowledge about 2 years ago, but I researched and learned, it's paid off so far I didn't really take many inards pics other than what's in the video. Sorry guys.. Mr Man Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Yeah, they're actually pretty quick in the few seconds you see them in Clones, at least compared to AT-ATs. Pretty nippy in CW (the original one) as well. Quote
