Aloha Pief,

BR 38 and BR 41 I like.

One of my goals with my "Super Mega Steam Power Train Builder" LEGO IDEAS project is that one could build an approximation of such steam locomotives as BR 38 and BR 41. The novice builder gets an "in-the-box" more generic build that fairly easily converts wheel and lengths, while the advanced MOC builder can combine two sets and/or parts from their personal collection to refine the model to have much more specific like-life characteristics to really look the part of the real life source material.

Another goal if SMSPTB was to provide builders with a basic locomotive platform that provides only the wheels, drivetrain, and couplers upon which the builder can populate any kind of imaginable cab, boiler...

Even possibly make it a diesel or electric. While I have yet to try a diesel of electric from the currently proposed in-set parts, I think it might be possible. I'll likely need to add in some specific parts suitable for pantographs, electrics, exhaust vents, and the like...

Looking forward to any and all "what's next" train offerings from TLG.

The problem with the My Own Train sets was that the the design was utter shi.. ... I mean, not so good. Like Jack Stone and Town Junior, it was such a HUGE step back that it just didn't really appeal to anyone who already owned enough sets from the 80s and 90s. Most people who bought those sets back in the day used them for parts. At least over here in Germany, where we were used to seeing much nicer sets on the shelves.

With the EN, Maersk and HE, they have proven that they are able to design much better looking sets than the My Own Train stuff. I'm not saying that they should go overboard, but they could at least test the waters with a nice looking engine and no more than 2 different cars as additional sets. Or maybe just one additional passenger car with a few extra parts and instructions for an alternative model like most creator sets seem to have.

+1, I'm amazed the company hasn't released a single Creator 3-in-1 pack for anything track gauge. We're talking about just one product afterall with three unique and fun designs, including two different kinds of train and a carriage (like the Emerald Express), or vice-versa. While standard Creator is more traditional/simpler to the Expert line, my own store experience has proven that parents want more locos to display or play with their children. The City train products are almost always gifts for birthdays and the holidays, so it's natural to not want to purchase another complete set just for a different engine. It's quite frustrating.

The incentive is there for customers to purchase more than one product, it would compatible with their existing train set-ups and need not be priced at any more than £35. The designers wouldn't even need to consider P.F - let the builder find a solution.

I for one would be thrilled to no end if TLG would bring back the "My Own Train" style single cars. I know trains as a product line by TLG seem to consistently being a low priority - but a guy can dream...

I would love to see a set with the level of detail of the Emerald Night but using an American prototype (4-4-0 or 4-6-0) as a reference.

The BTTF train would have been a cool set to see but I suspect it was just too big to be a viable IDEAS product plus the DeLorien didn't exactly fly off the shelves (mostly due to the not-so-good design I suspect)

The Horizon Express has just been discontinued. Hopefully this means we get another train in the first or second 2015 product wave.

I fully expect to see a new Creator Expert train announced in the next couple of weeks for release in January. Hopefully VIP members will get a chance to pre order.

Or LEGO sends someone on Eurobricks an early copy to review. :classic:

I would love to see a 4-8-4 American steam locomotive. Something similar to the Pere Marquette 1225, given it's as iconic a steam train to America due to its role transporting coal to factories in WW2, and more recently, as the inspiration for The Polar Express.

Whatever Lego releases for Trains in 2015 I hope there's the possibility to buy carriages separately.

I got 2 HEs and they look cool together, but with 2 more wagons it would look awesome.

Don't forget that Creator trains are Exclusives, which means that leaks will be much harder to come by. Other product categories are more widely available to retailers.

Horizon was pretty much completely confidential and completely unleaked until its release on January 1, 2013. I imagine we'll get one on a same or similar release date, so hopefully soon. It'll probably be released around Easter at the latest.

HE was announced at the end of Sept 2012, for release in Jan 2013. However, Maersk Train was revealed in Jan 2011 and released Apr 2011, so it's still not too late!

lol Looking on ebay, my two HE's that aren't built yet might end up there

I do want one nice complete trainset though, my boyhas another one and it appears we have another near complete one out of a 42lb bulk lot I snagged off of ebay a while ago.

I do want to see a new train, hoping for something from the good 'ole USA, since I wasn't into it for the Santa Fe, BNSF or Maersk stuff

One of my many sources for 2015 Summer sets news has provided this name for a Summer 2015 LEGO City set:

LEGO City 60098 Metro MDP

I have no idea what that is, or what MDP stands for... but... *oh2*

The only thing I could find for "MDP" stood for "Metropolitan Development Plan". Which made me wonder what that could mean? I thought since it's "Metro" and it seems to be under the "MDP" I assume it has to be some sort of transportation. So I have 3 theories:

#1 We could have just another small tram like in the 8404 City set (Wouldn't be too exciting).

#2 We could get a more narrow gauge system (With speculation of new motor system it may be easy to do so I do not know).

#3 Either an elevated track system or maybe even a new monorail system (Highly unlikely)

We shall hopefully soon find out with more information later.

Happy speculating!

P.S. There was also talk of a set called "LEGO City 60097 Special Edition" which reminds me of the 3677 which was an unexpected "Special Edition" train set so thier may be another thing to look for there... Hmmm interesting stuff coming

Googling "MDP train" brings a lot of indian train/station links ...

Makes sense since TLG don't put actual doors in City trains, the minifigs might just ride on the roof anyway

Wait! Mayby it's this one :

.. and finally, googling "LEGO MDP" brings up Mindstorms Development Program .. hmm

Just received the February store calendar from the Flatiron store. It says "VIPS get early access to a new exclusive LEGO set!", February 17-28. Perhaps this new exclusive is a train.

Great news! Just remember it could be other exclusives but usually the exclusive trains do come out in March thats sounding good!

Thanks! Also look for any info you can about the set  (Pictures or set numbers etc.)

I suspect 'metro mdp' hasn't been translated properly. After all, what does svp stand for? Who would guess it is short for 'please' in french if you didn't know it's french?

Yep! The original leak was via a Czech website. I googled DMP inititals Czech but ended up with "Dullest Man in the Pub"
