dr_spock Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Is there any hope at all for a new creator train this year or is it confirmed that there will not be one. The people who know are employed by LEGO. It seems they aren't talking when asked about future products for fear of losing their job.
andythenorth Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 There is hope until December 31st. Then there is no hope. But hope is all you'll have.
JopieK Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 The people who know are employed by LEGO. It seems they aren't talking when asked about future products for fear of losing their job. One of many things that LEGO and Apple have in common :)
peterab Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Is there any hope at all for a new creator train this year or is it confirmed that there will not be one. Any concern should be directed towards the older builder's/mature market, as this has yet to have been updated since the HE's exit. I've been told a new product could arrive Q3, but this was sketchy at best. A 'sketchy at best' rumour is all we've got. I've talked to some previously reliable sources and they see no indication of a new Creator train. It may be they've been cut out of the loop since LEGO has tightened up their new product leaks but it certainly isn't looking good. I think the general consensus in other themes is all the larger LEGO shop exclusive sets for this year are known (taking into account known releases such as LEGO shop calendars etc.). There is hope until December 31st. Then there is no hope. But hope is all you'll have. I think this is pretty much spot on. I'd probably suggest further that if we haven't seen anything by the end of Sept. the likelihood will be very small. Train sets according to tradition (* by which I mean I've been told this but cant verify it) have much higher sales in the US just before Christmas, so they pretty much need to be delivered and on shelves there by Oct. That means Europe will need to be either before or after the US for staggered production and release. After interferes with their efforts to keep everything else in stock for Christmas so I doubt they'd be planning that. Sept. seems a reasonable (though arbitrary) cut-off and ties in nicely with the sketchy rumour. Frankly I think the source of the rumour could have got mixed up with the Heavy Haul train. I would have expected a Q3 release to be known or at least announced by now.
THERIZE Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Is there any hope at all for a new creator train this year or is it confirmed that there will not be one. don't think so. i assume that creators would be announced earlier. but hopefully next year...
paul_delahaye Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I've given up hope for this year, hopefully Jan 1st will bring us more luck for a new Creator train, maybe they just needed more time to perfect it!

I sure hope so. If they repeat their assumed current cycle the new creator train should be a steamer an I would get it because I missed out on the Emerald night :)
Lego Dino 500 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 We may not be in total control over Lego's product releases right now and don't know about any future Lego trains, but there is one thing we can do and that is flood Lego Ideas with decent, inexpensive train projects. Like Talos's train station, Henrick Ludvigsen's DB Class 103, this subway: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/100353. If more trains end up on there with at 10,000 votes, we could eventually control the choice in trains we get and give proof to Lego that trains are more than a small niche product. The problem is, not a lot of Train projects reach 10,000, and those that do are quite unreasonable. We need to change this if we want more trains.
IronFish Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 It's not that Lego trains are a niche product line, it's just that Lego is treating it like a niche product line. Besides if we did get a new Creator train what would it be? We already got steam, diesel, and electric. What's next?
jonwil Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I for one would love to see a set that is as detailed and cool as the Emerald Night but based off more of a US prototype like a 4-6-0. The Constitution Train Chase is ok but the locomotive is not as good as it could have been due to the need to keep the price point low whilst including all the other stuff the set needed to have. (it doesn't even have connecting rods and the cylinders aren't particularly detailed)

What's next? maybe dual powered like the swiss 'stroomloc'. steam locos with pantographs on the roof. is an example of one. otherwise i think they just repeat with a new steam loco.
Aaron Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Not buying another set unless they produce a 10-wide, full 1:38 scale replica. I'll be waiting patiently for that day!
Dread Pirate Rob Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 (edited) i assume that creators would be announced earlier. but hopefully next year... I'm not as adept at graphic design as some of the talent here, but I'll lend my encouragement to a 50th anniversary release with my shot at a logo. Please Lego, do something to mark this historic year. My encouragement by Canvas Rails, on Flickr Edited July 26, 2015 by Dread Pirate Rob
fred67 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 A 50th anniversary set, something that would blow us away, would be incredible! Unfortunately, I think the early 2000's showed to TLG that trains are, indeed, a niche product. Yes, there's a lot of us fans out there, and they will keep making sets that are suitable for kids, but there are just far more fans for other themes for TLG to do anything but throw us a bone every so often.
davidmull Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I think we need something maintenance ie a plasser or something.
ancestral Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 This has never been done before, and it seems like it wont be for a long time but; A maersk like locomotive with modular cars would be awesome. Not much train sets with more than 4 cars. This could be done in 2 sets, 1 set for kids with basic train and station for playability and another one for those who want to expand the original set.
zephyr1934 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 There is hope until December 31st. Then there is no hope. But hope is all you'll have. Everything I have heard is that nothing is coming at least through the end of 2015, after that, unknown (but that is where hope begins). If you want a Creator-like train building experience, there is always the Conrail GP40 instructions that I MODed from Maersk to work with parts from the blue freight train. As for timing, I believe both the EN and Maersk came out about April of their respective years. I think HE came out January. I sure hope so. If they repeat their assumed current cycle the new creator train should be a steamer an I would get it because I missed out on the Emerald night :) Unfortunately there is no "regular cycle". I for one would love to see a set that is as detailed and cool as the Emerald Night but based off more of a US prototype like a 4-6-0. The Constitution Train Chase is ok but the locomotive is not as good as it could have been due to the need to keep the price point low whilst including all the other stuff the set needed to have. (it doesn't even have connecting rods and the cylinders aren't particularly detailed) Here's a fairly quick MOD to turn the lone ranger train into something more realistic... and you can even use pure lego beams if you prefer. Personally, the thing I would like to see is a much better done hobby train (i.e., better part selection, rare colors, printed instructions, etc.), with three variants (being true to normal Creator sets) that can build a locomotive, a couple of cars, or a couple of other cars. Thus providing a real set that can be bought in multiples.

Paperballpark Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 The problem is, not a lot of Train projects reach 10,000, and those that do are quite unreasonable. I don't know of a single Train project that has even reached 5000, let alone 10000. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Unfortunately, that may only confirm to LEGO that trains are a niche market.
1974 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 As I brought you the 100% proof of the 2014 trains (look it up, it was solid) and I can with 100% certainty tell you that I know diddly about 2015 trains Very sorry :( Cheers, Ole

Lego Dino 500 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Just a question that's kinda got me stumped: Besides the normal Lego trains, why haven't we gotten any Technic trains? I'd love to see a full 1/38 scale UP Big Boy made out of Lego technic, and to scale with the Lego track. That'd be something pretty interesting, and it seems pretty feasible, so it make you wonder why it hasn't happened.

1974 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Forget about LEGO Ideas, it's a xxxx scheme and not something that TLG actually spends a lot of time on. Nothing will come out out of that (unless you're a fan of _whatever cartoon_) regarding trains Proper LEGO trains takes a long time to develop and we will surely get what we have gotten in the last few years, at least since RC made it's debut (No, I don't mean 7898/7897), so look out for the annual Creator train and the 2-3 regular trains + and maybe some buildings, if you're lucky every couple of years - But no regular integrated train theme like in the old days - 80'-''87 That's all I know for sure ;) Cheers, Ole
ilikeboomerang1 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I'm new in this part of EB, but I think that they might do for their 50th anniversary a huge train set, something like the 10184 Town Plan of trains. Maybe, that's why they might not release one this year: They're busy building and perfectioning that set!
