they don't exist in dark grey so I had to paint them. It's a bit darker than it should be but since it's underneath it's harder to notice the difference in color then when they were in their original color

Wow, another great car with all sorts of great detailing. Two minor suggestions, perhaps move the bottom grab iron (1x2 plate with handle) down a plate, they look too tight to my eye. Also, the actual cars would probably have had only two ladder rungs where you have the 1x2 plate with ladder, do you have room to snot in four 1x1x1 panels in their place?

I'll need to have another look at the pictures of the model to make sure about the grab iron. As for the plate with ladder, yeah I know it's supposed to be only 2 steps and I could do the snot you suggested, only problem with that is that it would make the bogies wider and they are allready wider than the coach

Ah, but couldn't you just use this part instead?

If you replaced the double convex inverted slopes in this picture:

with this bracket facing outward:

below the 2x3 plate with hole, you might be able to keep the 1x1x1 panels behind the edge of the coach. In any event, please do not get me wrong, you cars are beautiful with tons of details. Just tossing out a few minor suggestions that might not be feasible.

The double convex are also present on the bogies of the other cars, I like the look it creates so I'm not going to change those. The problem is, there should be a gap in between the steps, using brackets won't give me that. The "best" solution would actually be to go even more on the non purist tour (like with painting the other brackets) and remove the middle step of the ladder, creating a bigger gap in between. As for the grab iron, I've had time to recheck, and yes they should have a plate more space in between. But I'm not sure atm if I'm going to correct it, I'd have to do that on the other cars aswell then.

Yeah, that is the (usually fun) challenge of building in lego, change one thing and that will mess up five other things. Always a delicate balance.

I do see one simple thing that might help the operation of the cars though. You still have the drive bands on the wheels. You will probably have less drag from the wheels if you remove the rubber bands. Otherwise, on curves as the wheels try to rotate at different rates they will have more friction and will slow you down in the curves.

well, I've changed the position of the top grab iron on all coaches that have them, just need to change it in the instructions aswell now
