In terms of performance, defined as the torque / speed performance of the engine and then the motorized parts of the model,there is much difference between a BB 8881 classic used with the AA NiMh (Eneloops for example) and a BB 88000 used with the AAA NiMh (for example, always Eneloops) ? of course I know that the AAA will be exhausted before but the thing that interests me most is the performance. I'm happy with the standard BB 8881 and the Eneloops, If confirmed that the performance is similar, I take directly the 88000 and leave it on the shelf the 8878 that costs a lot thank you very much Quote
Blakbird Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Besides the difference in storage capacity, the other difference between AA and AAA is current output. You can pull more amps through AA and therefore you have more power. However, the LEGO battery boxes limit you to 1A and since both kinds of batteries are capable of this current, I'm not sure you will see much difference in practice. But it is present in all battery box? If actually in this way, even with the AAA that are 850mAh would have the same results as with the AA so would both limited. in theory, this reasoning is correct? thank you Quote
Philo Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) Yes, all battery boxes (PF and 9V) have a current limitation of 750mA (which, if you are a bit lucky, or for short time, can go to up to 1A). A problem with AAA cells compared to AA is their higher internal resstance, so at high current voltage on the motors will be lower. see more details here. Do not confuse battery capacity (expressed in mAh) and available current (expressed in mA)! A 850mAh battery will be able to provide 850mA during 1 hour, or 1.7A during half an hour (more or less: battery capacity is lower at high current!) Edited July 26, 2014 by Philo Quote
